What's up Steeler Nation? Beat writer checking in here. Ray Fittipaldo is at Heinz Field today and I'm INACTIVE (couch). But I'll be here chopping it up with you all throughout. Thanks for joining.

Are the Steelers gong to continue to honor criminals on their helmets?
Brian Batko
12:43
Steelers have now gone to individual messages on the back of each player's helmet, as they did last week, too. And it's up to the players what/who they wear. Some have names, others have phrases, a few have nothing.

when the steelers lose today who will big ben blame?
Brian Batko
12:47
He should blame Ray, considering the Steelers won last week when I was at the game.
12:50
David DeCastro back at right guard today. Kevin Dotson gets a gold star for his service in a time of need. Third starting combination in three games for the Steelers OL, but this one should stick for a while, barring any further injuries.

BB... any anticipated new wrinkles in the offense today... perhaps more fullback... and more targets to our tight ends.
Brian Batko
12:52
Would be the perfect time to use Derek Watt a little more, eh? He went from 8 snaps in the opener to 6 in Week 2. Being used less than any other fullback but one (granted, only half the teams have one).

As for more TE targets, from the sounds of Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger this week, Eric Ebron's involvement will continue to increase. OC Randy Fichtner mentioned getting Vance McDonald more looks too, but we know there's only one ball to go around.
12:55
Will be interesting to see how the Steelers deal with Deshaun Watson and this Texans offense. A lot of RPO, reading the edge rushers, but T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree might be the best outside linebacker tandem in the league right now.
1:00
T.J. and J.J. Watt the captains at midfield for the coin toss.

If I'm Houston, I don't even bother trying to establish the run in this game. Let Watson fling it 60 times if you must. Think that's the only way they can put a dent in this Steelers defense.
1:07
Two early targets for Eric Ebron on the first series, but uh, not exactly in sync with Ben Roethlisberger. JuJu to the rescue though.

Watt in at FB??
Brian Batko
1:09
Yep, and rookie Anthony McFarland with his first NFL snap. Gets the carry.
HudsonValleySteve
1:10
Snell in doghouse??
Brian Batko
1:10
Could be. Fumbles will get you there as a running back, and quickly. Drive stays alive with a DPI call on the Texans.
1:11
Jerald Hawkins getting an early snap as the new Zach Banner in that jumbo set.
1:13
Jaylen Samuels stopped on third-and-1. Running with power really not his game. Curious call.
Chris Boswell's 33-yard field goal is good, but that's not how you want to end a solid drive. Steelers 3, Texans 0 with 8:55 left in the first.

How's JJ doing??
Brian Batko
1:15
Didn't notice him on the opening drive.

I know it was 1 carry but MacFarland looked quick.  Held on to ball which is a plus
Brian Batko

That was a nice little play they drew up, too. Got some misdirection, got the defense's eyes moving, and McFarland had a bit of room to run.

Hello folks...listening on snr...got raiders/ 49's on tv with sound turned down.  Chat is ahead of the radio so getting results quicker than Hillgrove and company on the puter
Brian Batko
1:19
Hey, rman. Niners-Raiders, eh, how's that one going?
1:20
Vince Williams matched up on Brandin Cooks, should've been an easy TD but Watson missed him.
1:21
Touchdown, Texans. Randall Cobb, finding fountain of youth, puts a nice move on Mike Hilton for the TD.
Houston leads it 7-3 with 6:01 left in the first half.

2 different games....no score raiderspats...niners up 3 zip to giants
Brian Batko
1:23
Deshaun Watson 3 for 4 on that drive for 65 yards. Can't let him get in a rhythm.
rman
1:23
sheesh......texans scored quick
HudsonValleySteve
1:24
run game ripping some yardage??
Brian Batko
1:25
Steelers might wanna get back to it. Ball control, kepe it away from Watson, keep Ben out of harm's way.
Ray-Ray McCloud with an offense snap now and goes in motion pre-snap.

A couple of questionable coaching moves already. A bad play call or design on 3rd and short then Vince Williams cannot cover.
Brian Batko
1:26
The third-and-1 call cost them, the defensive mix-up didn't, but yes good points, Dude.

Villanueva is terrible.
Brian Batko
1:28
Looked like Pouncey didn't get the job done on that protection, either. Regardless, there were three guys in white right there, and the third was J.J. Watt, so someone was gonna make that play. Breakdown on the OL.

Now runs on first two downs allowing big rush on 3rd
