You hae to remember, Zaidi doesn't get just to do whatever he wants.
3:15
I don't think the Giants are actually good, but there are a lot of people in the organization who aren't keen on going full rebuild

3:15
depending on the prospects, I could do a ClintFrazier + 3 prospects for Robbie Ray. wouldn´t you?
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:15
Well, if I'm Arizona I can! lol
3:16
God, and I wondered if *I* was too generous!
(I like Ray)
3:17
BTW, it appears Gyorko is heading to the Dodgers. He was shoved out quicker than a Soviet marshal in the 1930s.

Do you think the Pirates are correct in saying "Lux or bust" for Vazquez? Is there any other (realistic) deal without Lux that would be advantage for the Pirates?
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:17
It depends how happy they are not trading him at all.

I am here! We're up to date and THE BOARD update will be pushed in moments

I understand the Padres’ decision to trade Franmil and I accept as a positive step for the org. But I’m still heartbroken. :(

Why didn't anyone outbid the Mets on Stroman? Feel like the Rays should have jumped at the opportunity to turn two of their redundant prospects into Stroman given their 40-man crunch. (Really helpful article on that, by the way!)
AvatarDan Szymborski

I haven't talked to anyone in the org last couple of days, but I'd make an educated guess based on what I know that they really like SWR's upside.
Maybe Kiley can expand; he's always burning up the phone lines!

Elias is ... fine? Couldn't the Nats have tried out Guilbeau straightaway as a LOOGY first?
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:20
The Nats don't like using their interestingish young relievers.

Gyorko trade a good example of August trade moved to July

The Pirates continue to ask the Dodgers for Ruiz and one of May/Lux, which is insane. How did that front office go downhill so quickly in their assessment of trade values? Between this ask, and their previous trades (Archer and Cole deals), they seem to be way out there.
AvatarKiley McDaniel
3:21
To be fair, PIT has always had insane asks on their top assets under Huntington. The Archer deal was the one time they paid someone else's big ask

How many more trades does Dipoto need to do to get his fix?

What was the last prospect-for-prospect deal like this Gallen/Chisholm trade?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
3:21
Asked Eric about this and we couldn't think of one
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:21
The Dodgers might do Ruiz/May for Vazquez if the Pirates are also fetching prime Javier Vazquez by time machine and including him too.
Montero/Pineda?

For as much crap as the Mets are taking, the Stroman deal strikes me as part of an interesting, possibly underused strategy. Whether or not their expectation to contend next year is realistic, buying someone with an additional year of control while selling some expirings to gear up for next season is kind of a neat strategy for teams on the verge of contending (and also maybe too tight of a needle for the Mets to competently thread, but still...). It seems like the Reds are trying to do a similar thing.
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:23
I think it's fine if they *just* acquire STroman. The issue that we were all mocking them for was their apparent simulatneous desire to dump Syndergaard and/or Wheels

3:24
Going back to Jazz/Gallen: the gap in prospect ranking between them can be made up in the preference for a type of asset (now MLB vs. higher risk/contact issues/may be 2 years away) and makeup perception (Jazz is regarded as a bit of a personality, Gallen is a high floor, polished feel/pitchability type). Eric and I aren't editorializing about Jazz, we've heard it from enough teams that it's part of the perception, if not reality.
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:24
Also, Jazz Chisholm is an 80 name
RAndoM
3:24
Is the Chisholm for Gallen deal more a reflection of the Dbacks losing faith in Chisholm getting his strikeout issues under control, or a reflection of a belief that Gallen is for real?

Will the failure of Jerry Dipoto to pull off a trade by today's deadline be the 7th sign of the apocalypse?
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:25
What if ALL these trades are his conception and he's now the puppetmaster? Did you consider that?
John
3:25
What do you all make of the Nats throwing 3 new relievers at the wall, hoping they stick. And what they gave up? Thx!
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:26
The thing is, the Nats didn't give up a ton. I think long-term, they need to do a much better job at looking at their interesting youngish arms than they've done, but they need the relief pitching right now.
AvatarKiley McDaniel
3:26
rAndoM: I think Arizona is a more progressive club that prefers performance and now ability, may pull a power rebuild like MIL did while Miami, under the Jeter group, has consistently shot for the moon with the highest upside bats they can find (Monte Harrison, Lewis Brinson, Magneuris Sierra, etc.) and will probably need to wait a bit longer for contention

Shane Greene to Braves

Can you talk Padres fans off the ledge about losing Franmil Reyes? People are seriously upset.
AvatarDan Szymborski
3:28
I'm a fan of Franmil Reyes. But he doesn't bring a lot of defensive value to the table and it's a position at which the Padres have a glut.
3:29
The glut is affecting their ability to look at all these guys long-term in the outfield. Personally, I suspect that the front office is more willing to curtail Wil Myers playing time more than ownership wants them to.
AvatarKiley McDaniel
3:29
If i'm gonna speculate on the price ATL paid for Greene
