Here is where things stand in D1 individually

2:09

McKenna Nelson retrieves her ball after making birdie on 18 to take the clubhouse lead in D1 at 3-under

1:44

In D1 individually, UW-Green Bay-bound Brinley Goninen just bogeyed the tough 4th hole to fall back to 3-under. She leads three golfers by one shot

1:43

1:41

In D1, as expected, three-time defending state champ DSHA has opened a double-digit lead on DeForest.

1:38

Last year’s D2 runner-up, Edgerton, also in the lead with nine to play on opening day

1:37

The last group of D2 golfers is making the turn. Aubrey Molaison of Lake Country Lutheran, last year’s state runner-up, leads Parkview (Orfordville) freshman Taytum Oswald by two shots

12:20

2025 state runnerup Aubrey Molaison with a solid lead in D2

11:44

In Division 2, as you look at these team scores keep in mind that Edgewood is in the first wave of teams and well ahead of the sectional champions who comprise the last wave

11:38

The first wave of teams has made the turn in Homestead is the best of that group at the moment

11:37

There is a lot of talent on this leaderboard. And with at least 27 holes to go a lot of golf to be played.

11:35

I watched McKenna Nelson two putt for birdie on number nine to make the turn in one under. Not bad after a bogey-bogey start

10:56

10:55

In D2, pars are good early on a warm day with slight breeze

10:53

Early in the team competition but Addison Johannes of Arrowhead, who has had a great postseason jumped out to an early lead in D1

8:54

Three four-time state qualifiers in the final group of individuals Division 1 in Green Bay Preble co-op’s Emma Cunningham, the 2025 runner-up; 2024 state champ McKenna Nelson and Union Grove’s Alana Keevers

8:16

Amelia Hogue of Ashwaubenon looks on after hitting the first tee shot on 1

7:52

Of course, the reality of the calendar is on display.

7:45

I’m not sure I’ve seen it nicer at University Ridge

6:54

Quick update to today's high temperature: NBC15's Charlie Shortino is saying we will hit 85 degrees, which would break the record for the day by two degrees. A quick reminder for golfers, coaches and spectators to hydrate as today's opening round unfolds.

Good morning and welcome to the 55th annual WIAA state girls golf championships. Can you believe it?! It's going to be 81 degrees at University Ridge GC in Madison as perhaps the deepest collection of high school golf talent tees it up in summer-like conditions.

I will be out there shortly before the 8 a.m. start to the opening round. I'll be taking photos of golfers as they come through the first tee and then writing about the Division 1 and Division 2 competition after the day is done. The forecasted high Tuesday is still 73.

Not too shabby for the final major golf tournament at any level in Wisconsin for the 2026 golf season!
