grade my offseason
Smith Brickner

B. You made your team way more competitive, but all the money you spent to get Cano, Lowrie, Wilson, and others could've been used to get Manny or Bryce. I'd take either of those two over the others
1:42
I will say this, Brodie has eliminated may of that what-ifs with the team by creating good depth. Versatility and depth are hugely important and often underrated aspects of roster construction.

are phillies done?
Smith Brickner
1:44
No, they will sign one of Manny, Bryce, or Craig Kimbrel. When your owner comes out and says he might get a little stupid with his spending, you get a little stupid with your spending or the fans will give you hell.

Thoughts on the Merrifild extension?
Smith Brickner
1:45
Seems a little light for Whit, but as we've seen, baseball continues to devalue players who are 30 or older. It brings some security for a player who's had to fight for everything in his career.
1:46
However you slice it, it's a great deal for the Royals.

y arent the cubs signing anyone?
Smith Brickner
1:51
Hey hey, they've signed Kendall Graveman, Daniel Descalso, and Brad Brach
1:53
But yes, an underwhelming offseason in the Windy City. The White Sox might end up having a more eventful offseason. The White Sox!
1:55
I think there's *some* validity to the payroll constraints. They're around $220 million-ish. But, if they really wanted to, I feel they could trade Heyward. They just don't seem inclined to do that.
But Ricketts not doing a Q&A at their Fan Fest citing it as "boring" is not a good visual
A few more questions and we'll call it a day

What does my client Marwin Gonzalez get?
Smith Brickner
1:58
I love me some Marwin Gonzalez, but you can't plan on him as an everyday regular. He's a super utility man with a plus bat in the right situation. I say he gets a little more than what Zobrist got a few offseasons back. Zobrist got 4/56, so I could see Marwin getting 4/60.

What record would you give the Rangers if szn started today?
Smith Brickner
2:01
Underrated offense, awful pitching, meh defense, poor depth. Uhhhhhh how does 75-87 sound?
I'm actually in the middle of writing a top-5 prospect list for them. basically, they have legit talent in their farm, but they're years away from contributing.

When will minor league statcast data become available?
Smith Brickner
2:05
I genuinely can't wait for the day if/when that comes. With the increased hype around prospects, it seems like a foregone conclusion that we could get some of that data in the next 2-3 years.
