I mean, his stock has definitely fallen
Lear

It seems unlikely the Twins are all of a sudden going to trade all their assets in the next 30 min. Why oh why have they not been more active in cleaning house?
august fagerstrom
3:32
Your guess as good as mine
Probably because they just don't have that many interesting assets, though?
They're an interesting team because they've got *so* many interesting young pieces, and then a whole lot of nothing. Plouffe getting hurt hosed them
3:33
Guess I don't fully understand why there wasn't more of an effort to move Dozier
Paul Swydan
3:33
Hi everybody!
3:34
I'm tagging in for August, so he can go write.
Bye August!
august fagerstrom
3:34
hey Paul!
bye everyone!
Paul Swydan
3:34
So, you guys need to be patient with me. I just walked in off the beach.
But let's do it.

3:34
Is the extra WC spot one of the best things to happen to baseball recently?
Paul Swydan
3:35
No my friend, I abhor the extra wild card, but I am in the distinct minority. A full 1/3 of teams make the postseason now, which I think dilutes the whole process.

NYY probably avoid the luxury tax next season. Couple that with the 1.5x multiplier on the cash they've unloaded so far, and they have made a good business move along with good baseball moves.
Paul Swydan
3:36
As I wrote yesterday, the Yankees have had a very good week. I am very impressed at their ability to pivot right into the sorts of trades that they rarely, if ever, make.

3:36
How is Jeff Locke still in baseball let alone a rotation piece for a *contender*?
Paul Swydan
3:36
Life is unfair?
Reds
3:37
Why are we terrible at making trades?
Paul Swydan
3:37
Because the person in charge of your team's baseball operations stopped learning about baseball a decade ago.
Life gets infinitely harder once you've decided you have it all figured out.
Hannah Hochevar
3:37
This Yankee turnaround is not fair. They're being rewarded for their failures!!!
Paul Swydan
3:37
I laughed.
Hmm
3:38
Are the Yanks setting themselves up to outbid the world for Harper in a couple of years?
Paul Swydan
3:38
I actually think that is an overrated explanation for what they're doing.
3:39
With Sabathia and A-Rod coming off the books after 2017, they were always going to have plenty of cash at the ready a year in advance of Harper hitting free agency. I think they're just making good baseball moves right now.
Hmm
3:39
Oh oh I know! The Yanks are collecting prospects to throw at the Angels for Trout!
Paul Swydan
3:40
Now, this is an explanation I can get better behind. Can you imagine if the Yankees ended up with Harper AND Trout? It'd be just like the episode of Seinfeld where George figured out a way for the Yankees to get Griffey and Bonds and it wouldn't even be that hard!
3:41
If the Yankees got Harper and Trout, would you still hate them?

I would hate them more! (47.8% | 329 votes)

I would hate them a little less (5.7% | 39 votes)

I couldn't hate them anymore, no. (16% | 110 votes)

I am already a Yankees fan, this would be delightful (20.8% | 143 votes)

Meh (9.7% | 67 votes)

Herrera going to the Reds confirmed by Ken Rosenthal.
Paul Swydan
3:42
The Mets must know something about Dilson Herrera that we don't, because I can't say that I care for that trade on the surface.

Why can't we mention Machado as well here. The O's have no way of keeping him. Seems exactly like something the Yanks would do
Paul Swydan
3:42
Man, the Machado fans really get up in arms when you ignore them.
3:43
For the record, I don't agree. Peter Angelos is a VERY wealthy man, and if he wants Manny Machado on his team, he is going to make sure he stays.

3:43
Is this a defining point in David Stearns career as the Brewers GM? If Lucroy isn't traded, is it a failure?
Paul Swydan
3:43
Um, no. They'll still be able to trade him in the offseason. In fact, Lucroy will probably be more amenable to a trade in the offseason, because then he won't have to build relationships with pitchers on the fly.

Big Stein needs his calzone!

He just can't be over there floppin' and twitchin'!
