Montas and Cotton are relievers. 2 pitch SP. Holmes is 3 years away. I won't disagree it was steep, but it wasn't THAT steep if he helps the Dodgers down the stretch and in the playoffs...That wasn't a question. Just a correction.
Dave Cameron
1:38
I don't know if you've noticed, but relievers are really valuable right now.

Re: Marlins-Padres thing, Passan says "apparently there will be recourse." What does that mean? Compensation? Throwing at players? Angry text messages?
Dave Cameron
1:39
Deal will get re-worked.

I know that teams have HIPAA laws but how do failed physicals always come out? How are front office employees not losing their jobs over this kind of stuff?
Dave Cameron
1:39
How do you track down who leaked what to a reporter?
Hank
1:41
Couldn't the Padres just say "hey, you did a physical and didn't see anything, so it's your problem"?
Dave Cameron
1:41
No. Buyers rely on sellers to provide accurate/up-to-date medical information. If they can show that SD didn't do that, then SD is culpable.
Dan
1:42
Padres: Better return policy than Wal-Mart?
Dave Cameron
1:42
Seems more like an exchange than a money back situation.
Rick
1:43
What do you think of Ervin Santana Jays rumour?
Dave Cameron
1:43
Makes some sense.
Pat
1:44
If SD was continuously using intentionally misleading medicals to complete trades (not saying they did, just a What if?) & it was proven, what is the recourse, long term? MLB steps in & fines them? Preller gets fired? Teams just quit doing business with them?
Dave Cameron
1:44
If it could be proven, MLB would punish them. But would be very hard to prove. And no reason for SD to do it. More likely this was just a fluke.
Matt
1:45
Do the MLB rules allow for do-overs, or does this need to "officially " be a second transaction?
Dave Cameron
1:45
Rosenthal says he's being traded back to SD. So separate move.
Elton
1:46
It was only 8 years ago that Casey Blake was traded for Carlos Santana. How unthinkable would such a lopsided looking deal be today?

(Unless Ned Colletti is still in the game somewhere? His quote was "Casey Blake is a gamer. His experience and character will be a plus as we head down the stretch in the final two months of the regular season.")
Dave Cameron
1:46
The game has changed a lot.
Dave
1:48
The Mets seem like a team that leaks rumors out to the media because the players in their deals always seem to be known. Do other teams hate that and make them less inclined to deal with the Mets?
Dave Cameron
1:49
Not so much about the Mets and more about vast quantity of reporters in NY.
Hard to keep a lid on things with 50 beat writers scouring around.

Mike Petriello is following along in this chat! He just posted Elton's comment on Twitter! Hi Mike!
Dave Cameron

Hi Mike!

Attempting to turn a nothing into a something: which team that has been completely inactive today stands to be hurt the most by their inactivity? Astros? Tigers?
Dave Cameron
1:50
Braves.
Eric
1:51
What do the Braves have to sell that they actually will part with?
Dave Cameron
1:51
Not about what they will, about what they should.
David
1:51
Why doesn't MLB give teams the day off today?
Dave Cameron
1:52
Players aren't making trades.
Josh Byrnes
1:52
Who's one player that could've been acquired for the package that brought back Hill/Reddick?
Dave Cameron
1:53
Lucroy, maybe?
Bernie
1:54
What's the record for most different teams involved in eating part of the same contract - has Kemp surpassed Vernon Wells?
Dave Cameron
1:54
Kemp only getting paid by Braves/Dodgers right now.
Padres dumped their obligation to him in exchange for taking Olivera.
Cubbies
1:55
Think BoSox bring up Benintendi prior to rosters expanding?
Dave Cameron
1:55
Yes, I think he's up very soon
forever it
1:55
Padres apparently have to give back Luis Castillo. Unclear what the fuss is about since the Marlins traded Paddack to them and he got injured after like 3 starts...
EC
1:56
When players get paid by separate teams, do they actually receive separate pay checks?
Dave Cameron
1:56
I don't know for sure, but I'd bet the teams pay each other instead.
David
1:57
Damn, 2 hours. Thanks for going this long!
