Do you think the shortened season and COVID hugely effected this off season? Did we see a noticeable amount of players DFAed? The top talent got paid and some players got left in the wind but nothing that different from previous seasons right?
Connor Byrne
2:33
It affected some teams (the big-market Cubs didn't want to spend, for instance), but it does seem like there was a lot of cash thrown around in the end. I'll have to take a closer look and maybe write something on the subject.

So what are the rules for COVID this year? How many players getting sick does it take for a game postponement? Are canceled games forit? Who makes that decision, is the team, is it the other team or someone in MLB?
Connor Byrne
2:36
I don't think anything has been spelled out as far as how many players would force a postponement. I don't think we'll see forfeits unless teams blatantly ignore the protocols, which won't happen. MLB makes those decisions, to answer your last question.

But the Cubs didn't sell off a bunch of talent either, that made an interesting(?) trade with Darvis but that was it.
Connor Byrne
2:37
They also didn't add much, and they sold off a Cy Young contender (Darvish) for a pretty mediocre-looking package.

Will Odorizzi eventually give in and re-sign with Minnesota?
Connor Byrne
I get it from the Twins' perspective. It would've been nice to keep Odo, but I wouldn't have bent over backward to do it. Their rotation looks fine to me right now.

Chances Atlanta may get the okay for a full ballpark at the ASG?
Connor Byrne
2:40
Doubt it. I hope everyone has full stadiums by then, but I'm no medical expert/government official.

Still trying to get any info in Puig.  Have you folks heard anything?
Connor Byrne
2:43
Pretty quiet since his Braves deal fell through last summer, which is weird to me. Puig's certainly a major league-caliber outfielder. Not sure if his asking price is unrealistic and/or teams don't want him because of his oft-maligned clubhouse presence.

Are you an NHL fan?  Which team, if so?
Connor Byrne
2:44
I'm a fan of the Buffalo Sabres, perhaps the worst organization in major professional sports. Fun times.

Jack Leiter > Kumar Rocker; Change my mind.
Connor Byrne
2:46
Ranking prospects isn't my specialty, but based on what I've read, this opinion is fine
Keith Law's latest rankings actually have Leiter at 1 and Rocker at 3. Texas HS shortstop Jordan Lawlar is 2.

(Re: Sabres) Well, at least you have someone to root for in women's tennis tournaments then!  (Or root against, if you really don't like the owners...)
Connor Byrne
2:48
Haha. They also own the Bills (my favorite team in any sport), and they've done well there because they stay out of the way and let the people who know what they're doing handle the work. They seem to be incompetent meddlers on the NHL side.

Who has the best relief corps in the junior circuit this year?
Connor Byrne
2:49
I've gotta put my money on the Rays
2:50
because they're bullpen geniuses. McHugh will probably put up a .90 ERA or something.

A.L. only 260$ cap Standard Rotisserie League. I recently traded for Isiah Kiner Falefa to fill my Corner Infield spot. He's 8$-2yrs. I like he will have Middle Infield after season starts. I feel he is under rated because the Corner position usually features more power. I plan to slide him into Middle Infield at our Auction two days after opening day. My strategy is filling some spots with cheap adequate players to free up dough for the big boys. Sound strategy or weak? Opinion on Falefa?
Connor Byrne
2:52
I don't think that's an awful strategy if IKF can come close to his average/steals pace from last year
2:53
he has no power, but .280/8 steals in 58 games looks good

Are there any reasonable starters available for trade? What would the trading team be looking for in return?
Connor Byrne
2:54
I don't think anyone all that notable will be traded, so it could be an FA signing (Odo, Porcello, for instance), an in-house guy, or taking a flyer on a waiver claim/minor trade

Is there any consideration of playoff re-seeding after the Wild Card Round (Game)?

For instance, say the Dodgers win the west with 105 wins, Padres are 2nd with 102. Padres beat the Mets in the wild card. Braves won the east with 93 wins, Cubs win the central with 88 wins.

Today, the NLDS would be Dodgers-Padres. I’d rather see that potential matchup in the NLCS.

I think it should just go by record. Whichever team that won the most games should face the club that won the fewest.

1. How many starts does Vlad Jr. get at 3B this season? Seems like he put in the work that they should give him a fair shake there. Yes, no doubt he projects as a 1B/DH in the long run, but the guy is so young still, and they should reward the effort.
2. I'm seeing all sorts of fun projections for the Jays lineup. But I think they should keep Biggio in the leadoff spot. He was fantastic there last season. And again, reward a guy for doing everything right. Lineup also looks so much longer with him in the 1 spot instead of the 6 spot. How do you see the lineup shaking out? Thanks!
Connor Byrne
2:58
I could see him playing some third (never hurts to have flexibility, and he did lose a lot of weight), but not a ton. Biggio as a leadoff man works for me. He's been a big on-base guy so far.

What's going on with Maikel Franco? He had a decent season for the Royals last year.
Connor Byrne

If I'm a non-contending team with questions at third (Rangers, to name one), I take a crack at him. Not really a Franco fan, but he should get a one-year deal and could at least get you something at the trade deadline if he does reasonably well in the first half of the season
Unfortunately, I've run out of time. Sorry if I couldn't get to your question(s). Steve will be here next Friday. Have a good weekend!
