Early season trades are hard to pull off... but might the Blue Jays strike on a starting pitcher?  Matt Boyd, Jon Gray or a Pirates starter? It’s a glaring need for a team with a strong farm that looks ready to contend.

I mentioned Gray to just about any contender earlier. He would definitely make sense for TOR, as would Boyd. You can go down the list of many SPs they could pursue if they stay in it.

It bothers me that Giancarlo Stanton is content making his 30,000,000 as a DH. To me it hurts the Sport when a young man doesn't play th

If he's more likely to stay healthy if he's a DH, it's probably for the best. The unfortunate thing is that he's a really good outfielder, not just a one-trick pony, but his body hasn't really held up.
2:41
I think he played 158 or 159 games in his final year as a Marlin (when he won the MVP), but he's been playing less and less OF since. None over the past couple seasons
Release Chris Davis
2:41
So, the Angels were able to release Pujols while owing him $30M. Why didn't the O's do the same with Chris Davis? (owed $17M/year)
Connor Byrne
2:42
Arte Moreno has deeper pockets, I guess. O's ownership should have accepted Davis as a sunk cost by now.

Do I trade Tyler Anderson at the TD?
Connor Byrne
2:43
The Pirates should move anyone with value who's not part of the long-term solution. Anderson has value, given the way he's pitched, and he'll be a free agent after the season. He's also 31 and has never been this good. Sell high if you can.
2:44
Rookie Anderson and 2021 Anderson have been really good, but he's been a back-end type for the most part

Is Mercedes robing Elroy Jiminez of a best role, as DH.  Seems to me that he never should have been assigned to left field this year because he is 1. so injury/accident prone and and not that quick off the bat, 2. has too much upside as a hitter.

Eloy has had his struggles in the OF, but he's still only 24, and it's a good problem to have when a Rule 5 pick (Mercedes) shows up out of nowhere and destroys the ball

Hiura is at the Brewers Alt site. What does a player work on/learn there that is better than live games at AAA?
Connor Byrne
2:48
He actually just went to Triple-A, but sometimes teams think it helps to send a player to a lesser level (alt site in this case) so he can kind of go back to square one mentally and from a baseball standpoint

from star in 2019 to terrible since. Something's obviously wrong.

Do teams have insurance on contracts so if say Chris Davis is on the IL all year the Orioles could recover part of this years salary?

Some of the larger deals do. I think the Mets took out a 2-year, $50MM policy on Lindor.

Not feeling well, so I'm going to have to cut it a bit short and regroup before my shift begins in a few minutes. I'm leaving some good questions on the table. Sorry about that. Thanks for your patience, your support of MLBTR, and enjoy your weekend. Steve will do the chat next week.
