No  one mentions Miami. Could they sneak into the playoffs again this year? They are clearly running under the radar.
Connor Byrne
2:39
I don't see them as a 2021 playoff team as of now, but a lot could change in the next few months. Regardless, I do like their direction.

Do people misspell your name?
Connor Bryne Jr.
2:40
Hey dad, was curious with bigger SP trade targets such as Darvish and Snell off the block, will the Angels just say screw it and throw money at Bauer to solidify something? Maybe go for a Sonny Gray. Idk but I can't let another year of Trout not in the postseason
Connor Byrne
2:41
My fake son can't even spell our last name right! Bauer does make sense for the Angels if they're willing to spend. Same goes for Gray, but is new GM Perry Minasian willing to trade young talent for him? Not sure about that.

It was reported that there were three finalists for Arihara, and Texas won with a contract offer of around 2 years for 6 million total.  If teams had known that such a weak offer would carry the day, do you think there would have been many more offers, or was he finally thought of as such a so-so candidate that the tepid response to his posting would have stayed the same?
Connor Byrne
2:42
I'm sure teams had insight into how much Arihara would get. It's worth a shot for a rebuilding team like Texas to plug him in and see what he can do, but I doubt contenders were beating down the door.

Did San Diego get a good deal on Snell?I was hoping Seattle would get Snell but don't suppose the M's wanted to give up two top prospects plus a lottery ticket or two.
Connor Byrne
2:44
I'd call it a good deal for both sides. You're right - the Mariners did not want to give up a Kelenic or a Rodriguez for Snell, which Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reported after the trade. Totally understandable on the M's part. They're not where the Padres are.

How many starters will the Mets sign or trade for, and what's your best guess who?
Connor Byrne

Shot in the dark: Tanaka

2:45
Why don't we see more prospect for prospect trades?
Connor Byrne
2:46
I wish we did. I guess teams are just committed to their young guys unless they're trading that player for a sure thing.

Grade the Rangers' off-season thus far.
Connor Byrne
2:48
Somewhere in the B/B+ range. I like the hiring of Young and don't have any issues with the moves the Rangers have made. It's nice that they're finally not guaranteeing a starting job to Andrus, though I wish they'd do the same for Odor. I would've liked to see Ha-Seong Kim there as Andrus' replacement, but oh well.

Is there anything happening for the Astros OF?
Connor Byrne
2:49
Not that I know of, but they're obviously going to have to do something to complement Tucker. Jackie Bradley Jr. has stuck out as a really good fit from Day 1 of the offseason. He's no Springer, but the Astros could certainly do worse.

What happened to Jeff Todd?
Connor Byrne
2:51
Jeff still works for MLBTR on a part-time basis, but he left his full-time position to run a business: https://www.roanokemountainadventures.com/

Does Lindor get traded before the season still?
Connor Byrne
2:51
I believe so, largely because I don't think Cleveland will want to foot any of the bill on his contract.

The rockies are about to be burned to the ground. Agree/disagree? And bonus! Predictions of landing spots for Story/Arenado?
Connor Byrne
2:53
They probably should blow it up if they can, but owner Dick Monfort is the same guy who predicted a 94-68 record last season. Story makes sense for lots of teams, and I think he's a lot more likely to go in a trade than Arenado if COL does wave the white flag.

2:54
Would it make sense for the Jays to trade for Castillo and one of Castellanos/Moustakas/Votto? Mouse would help fill in the IF the jays are looking for at 2b/3b and Castellanos could replace Gurriel Jr if he were to go the other way. I also know Votto has a no trade clause but maybe he'd waive to mentor a young team if it means coming to play in his native country? What would a trade look like?
Connor Byrne
2:54
I can't get into owners' heads re: finances, but I would hate to see an undesirable contract attached to Castillo. Trading him should be a farm system-replenishing move, not a cost-cutting decision.

Will MLB ever allow the trading of draft picks like in other sports, and do you think this will be a topic of discussion in the new CBA? I know they can trade competitive balance picks, but I think trades could be more exciting if any draft pick could be traded.
Connor Byrne
2:55
That should be allowed, and I do hope it's part of the next CBA
Daniel
2:55
The Padres are better than the Dodgers. Change my mind.
Connor Byrne
2:56
The Dodgers are a perennial juggernaut that's loaded all over the diamond, is capable of outspending everyone, and just won the World Series.
I say that with no disrespect to the Padres. I love what they're doing, too, but the Dodgers are still atop the mountain.
2:57
With that, I'm going to have to call it quits to run the site for the evening. Thanks to everyone for participating & happy New Year! See you next week.
