Hey everyone, remember when we talked last week and the biggest news was Drew VerHagen signing with the Cardinals?
That feels like eons ago
2:01
Bunch of questions in here as you'd expect so I'll try to move through a little quicker than usual today

Anthony, are the Red Sox sitting out this year's free agent signings?  They have holes everywhere.  An outfield with no power.  A weak bullpen.  Not enough solid starters.  Question marks at 1B.  Do they have a plan?
Anthony Franco
2:01
Still a chance they get one of the shortstops (Story seemingly likelier) but I agree, if they come out of this with nothing offensively, it's a rough offseason
2:02
I think they're the 4th-best team in the division as currently constructed

What’s going on with Kenley Jansen? Apparently he wants 3 years; not sure how much p.a.. What are the probable outcomes for him?
Anthony Franco
2:03
I haven't seen the three years report but it wouldn't be all that surprising if he gets there. Oddly quiet but I still think the Jays, Royals, Dodgers should all be in
Could basically argue for any hopeful contender that has some money to work (Tigers, Braves perhaps) to sign him

What’s more likely: the team with the worst record this season comes from the NL Central, or a different division? I’m tempted to take the field on this one, but I think the Pirates and Reds will be
will both be pretty bad.
Anthony Franco
2:04
I'd definitely take the field. Pirates are the only team in the NLC with a realistic "worst team in baseball" shot to me
The Reds and Cubs probably won't be great, but I think they'll each win 70+ games
Brock Holt
2:04
Will I have a home this season? Surely every team could use a Brockstar super utility player!
Anthony Franco
2:05
He'd definitely get a shot somewhere so long as he wants to keep playing, but I'm guessing it'd be a minor league deal with a non-roster spring invite

Would Means or Manaea cost more prospect capital? Overall who is the better value?
Anthony Franco
2:06
I think Means would bring back more in return given the three years of club control, but it also seems like he might just be a deadline trade candidate since he ended the year dealing with shoulder issues

If you are a former star or once had a few very good years...and can get a one-year contract from a good team: is it a better strategy to pick a team that has a good chance of making a run for the play-offs or sign with a team like the Nationals and have a high likelihood of being traded in July to a team that is actually in the thick of the pennant race?
Anthony Franco
2:07
I'd need more specifics to answer this question. If the money, playing time, quality of life in the city, etc. are all equal, I'd rather just sign with the hopeful contender and not have to uproot midseason or risk getting injured and not being traded
But any of the other things I mentioned could very easily sway me towards the non-contender

Is there a pitcher out there that Seattle could add? I can only think of the two Oakland pitchers.
Anthony Franco
2:08
I think that's basically it. Maybe Means? I don't think signing someone like Michael Pineda or bringing back Tyler Anderson moves the needle enough to bother
2:09
As is, they should have a pretty good rotation. Unless we're talking a guy who you'd want starting playoff games down the road, I'd probably just roll with it and reevaluate midseason depending on the performances of the young guys and injury situations

2:09
Do you think Oakland will actually soon trade each of Montas and Manaea or will they hold on to Montas until the trade deadline ? Can I ask you to suggest what it hypothetically would take for NYY to get both in one trade that does NOT include Volpe, Peraza or Dominguez?
Anthony Franco
2:10
I'd be really surprised if Manaea's on the A's Opening Day. Montas I could see them holding until the deadline because of the extra year of control but would still put it like 60-40 he goes in the next few weeks
2:11
On the second question, I don't know if it's even viable. Tough for me to see the Yankees starting with like Clarke Schmidt, Austin Wells and Ken Waldichuk and getting the A's to bite on moving both those guys

Is W. Contreras really available in a trade from the Cubs now that they also have Y. Gomes ? Given that he will be a free agent after 2022, would NY’s Medina or Gil (or both) get it done?
Anthony Franco
2:12
There's not really been any indication the Cubs are shopping Contreras but I think they should be
I think something around Medina or Gil would get the ball rolling, but I'm also probably lower on Contreras than consensus

Being a Pirates fan why do you think a floor cap was not added to the last agreement between owners and players?
Anthony Franco
2:13
Owners aren't going to willingly put that in unless they get a hard salary cap, which the union won't bite on
2:14
I don't think a floor achieves a whole lot anyways. Rather than stamping out tanking, I think it'd just force the Pirates to take on Eric Hosmer's contract to "buy" a prospect from the Padres or whatever. I'm not sure that'd be better than the way things are currently
Brian
2:14
Where will the following players be on Opening Day? Ramon Laureano, Kevin Kiermaier, & Luke Voit
Anthony Franco
2:14
Boring answer but I think both Laureano and Kiermaier are staying put
2:15
Voit's obviously a Padre now (Brian asked this before the trade)
Jeremy
2:15
Assuming Ramirez is not being traded, how about Ketel Marte?
Anthony Franco
2:15
I really don't think Arizona's moving him
Maybe at the deadline if they're terrible again, but they're at least going to play things out
2:16
The D-Backs have a little bit of the Rockies "we actually think we're pretty good even though nobody else does" going on
I kind of like the roster enough that I think it's more defensive in Arizona's case, although at some point, if you keep losing every night, you have to admit you're not as good as you might think
