Good question, I'm not sure. My guess would be they'd relocate those minor league teams but I don't know

How sad is it to see something like 2,000+ fans at an A’s game?
Anthony Franco
1:12
Yeah it's disappointing, but this is what you get with a brutal stadium and a stripped-down roster
1:14
I just feel bad for people in Oakland. I'm a Raider fan but not from either Oakland or Vegas. Went to a game at the Coliseum during their final year in Oakland and was amazed by how much passion there was among the fanbase even after they'd already announced they were going to leave. Would hate to see that happen to them again

When Farhan aquires us a player for "cash considerations, is that factored into the lux tax for us? How about the team aquiring the cash? Can we help a team get under the lux tax by aquiring a DFA player plus a prospect for like $8m?
Anthony Franco
1:16
If you send $100K to another team to acquire a player, that doesn't affect the CBT. If you get a team to pay down a contract of a player you're acquiring, that does factor in
1:17
The Giants couldn't just send the Padres $8MM to acquire a player making the league minimum. But they could take on Drew Pomeranz's salary to get money off San Diego's books (with the Pads kicking in a prospect)
I don't think they would since they're competing for the same playoff spot, but that's a hypothetical example

I know it’s still early and there’s still 135 games to play, but have the reds dug themselves too deep of a hole already?
Pete Rose
1:17
More likely: Reds lose less than 100 games, or win less than 50 games?
Dylan
1:17
The reds can’t be this bad, right? 3-21 has to be a combination of poor play and bad luck. But the thing is, the games aren’t that close
Reds for life

Anthony, when a team is in such disarray, as with the Reds, does it reverberate throughout the minor league teams, too? As players see what is happening with the big club, I imagine it impacts them, too. What can David Bell say each day, that hasn't already been said, to try to encourage this team? I'm guessing there have been several, "Today's the day we break out!" only to see yet another loss. Thanks for any insight!

Will MLB do anything to get the Reds' owners' attention and force them to get better? Right now I feel bad for the players and the fans.
Anthony Franco
1:18
Five variations of "the Reds are terrible, huh?"
1:19
They're not as bad as they've played thus far. The team has some talent. They've lost guys like India, Stephenson, Castillo, Barrero to injury this year
That'd hurt any team
1:20
At the same time, the way they've played the last couple offseasons made this kind of thing a real possibility. They've thinned out their depth to save money, leaving themselves no margin for error if key players get hurt or guys like Hunter Greene or Nick Lodolo don't immediately step in and produce at the MLB level
1:21
So my feeling on the Reds is a mixed combination of "man, they've had brutal luck" and "you reap what you sow"
1:22
2022 is dead already, there's no hope of coming back. I was more optimistic than most on the team coming in and thought they could be around average. Even if they get things back on track and play .500 ball from here on out, they'd finish 63-99. They're cooked
1:25
Sorry, I double-counted. They'd be 72-90
Either way, they're out
I do think fewer than 100 losses is still more likely than fewer than 50 wins, but it's close

Fangraphs projects me at a 122 wrc+ finish. If that comes to fruition, am I bound to opt out? Was there any chance I didn't opt out barring something crazy from the very beginning?
Anthony Franco
1:27
The opt-out always felt like it came down to how he played this year. If he posts a 122 wRC+ from here on out (coupled with what he's already done), he's testing the market again

Luis Castillo vs Frankie Montas - if Luis is 100% back to his usual form, what's the difference in cost here?
Anthony Franco
1:28
I think they're about the same. Comparatively productive pitchers with a year and a half of remaining control apiece
Jesus Luzardo
1:29
What am I? 4-5 starter? 2-3 starter?
Anthony Franco
1:30
I think he'll be one of those guys who goes like five innings per start and frustrates everyone because he's sometimes dominant but also has lackluster control
1:31
Like a pre-breakout Dylan Cease or 2021 Blake Snell. I don't know where you'd bucket that on a 1-5 ranking, 3/4?

1:31
Will the NL West will continue to have 3 strong teams indefinitely?
Anthony Franco
1:32
Probably. No reason to see the Dodgers taking a step back. Have a lot of faith in Giants brass to remain competitive even as the current core ages out. San Diego's a little more borderline but the star level talent is just going to keep them around even if A.J. Preller makes some bizarre decisions at times
1:33
I also think Arizona's going to be alright, albeit not to those other teams' levels. Not so bullish on the Rox

1:33
Who are a couple of players off to really bad starts you expect to bounce back to typical levels?
Anthony Franco
1:34
Hmm, let's see. I'd bet on most guys with track record to overcome bad starts. A few that stand out: Whit Merrifield, Marcus Semien, Eduardo Rodríguez, Germán Márquez

What is the correct number of announcers on a national broadcast?
Anthony Franco
1:35
I prefer two plus a dugout correspondent

Will MLB ever own up to their manipulations of the baseball over the last several seasons?  Sorry, I know there's not supposed to be any such thing as a dumb question, but I had to ask anyway.
Anthony Franco
1:36
We'll get some cloaked statement from Manfred alluding to "unpredictability" and "equipment challenges" as they announce they're going to experiment with tennis balls in the Arizona Fall League

1:36
Which is the least valuable player that would still improve every other roster?
Anthony Franco
1:38
I don't have a good answer to this but I think it's a reliever. Just easier to push those guys down a peg in terms of role. Chris Stratton?
