Who are the two best prospects in each league that get called up this year for more than a cup of coffee?
Steve Adams
2:26
I assume we're talking guys who haven't made their MLB debut yet?

American League: Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Carson Williams, Noah Schultz, Kyle Teel, Jac Caglianone, Cole Young and Colson Montgomery all come to mind.

National League: Bubba Chandler, Bryce Eldridge, Tink Hence, Jarlin Susana  ... I'm sure I'm blanking on plenty of good ones.

When Royce Lewis and Willie Castro how do you think their infield aligns? And is Brooks Lee a capable fielder in the middle infield?
Steve Adams
2:28
Lewis at 3B, Correa at SS, Castro at 2B, France at 1B. Castro utility. Lee and Julien optioned, though either player has the ability to hit enough in the next 10 days to alter that plan.

Yes, Lee can capably play a middle infield spot, but he needs to hit more to get a regular look.

What are your thoughts on the Rays’ signing of Kim? Looks like he won’t be available for another two months now.
Steve Adams

Was always a pretty notable risk for them, and May always seemed pretty optimistic, though we had little choice other than just taking Kim/Boras/the Rays at their word. You could easily get $13MM of value out of, say, 80 games from Kim though, so the delayed timeline isn't necessarily some kind of dagger that renders this a horrid deal now.

I remember some seasons when the rays traded veterans away early in the season and got better as a result. Could the Giants do that this season with starting pitching? Mostly thinking on Jordan Hicks and possibly Robbie Ray. We have a number of mlb-ready starters (Harrison, birdsong, Seymour, wisenhunt, and others) who might be better. Especially in Hicks case, while he might be a great bullpen addition for us, he may prefer a trade to a starter-needy team. Also thinking somewhat on Wade Jr if Eldridge breaks through

I don't really see anyone wanting much to do with Hicks on that contract and with how he's pitched as a starter. Maybe someone would be intrigued, but he was never a guy I was optimistic about as a starter. I'd rather just see the Giants 'pen him and move Birdsong to the rotation, as Anthony suggested last week. Hicks may prefer to start, but he's got to produce better than that he's done so far. We're looking at a 6.06 ERA, 19 K% and 11 BB% since last June. It's not great.

Hey, Steve.  Thanks.  I know it's the only the end of April, but, as Yogi said, It's getting late early.  Any idea why Mike Trout is only hitting .170?  (Are there any secondary numbers that say that things are going better than they look?)
Steve Adams

Trout it hitting .273 on liners -- again, league average is .693 -- and does not have a hit on any non-homer fly ball this season. (League average is .111)

His strikeout rate is up, so I don't think he's going to come roaring back to his career .297 mark, but Trout is also barreling the ever-loving crap out of the ball (17.8%). Hitting under .200 also is not something that's going to last.

The cost of a MLB game are out of touch with the fans. I thought of attending the Yanks vs the Braves in July in Atlanta. Only seat available are nose bleeds at 44.00 or the next section closer at 171.00. So the drive-6hrs, hotel, game & food are way more then I pay for a full season of MLB, why go to the game? Pretty sad, thank god I don't have kids that I would have to take to the game to get them really involved in the sport that I love so much!

Been a bit since I lived in New York, admittedly, but I never had quite that problem. I could usually find day-of tickets on the secondary market for $20 or less -- sometimes under $10. Never great seats, of course, but more about getting in the door for me.

The prices of tickets and concessions to any sporting event are generally ludicrous with respect average fans, especially when you factor in bringing kids to the game. I don't have a great solution to that, of course, other than to just say tickets usually are cheapest if you buy them an hour or two before gametime. It stinks, but that's attending a game these days.

Is there no opinion among all the MLBTR staff on the  duplicity of Snitkers treatment of Acuna and Kelenic for lack of hustle?
Steve Adams
2:42
I'm not going to pretend to know Snitker's motivation when he benched Acuna and when he kept Kelenic in. Looks like a double standard on the surface, sure, but there's so much that goes into a decision like that. Braves have been trying to get Kelenic going. They have thinner OF depth right now. His standing was already shaky and maybe you don't want to further disrupt it. Plus, Snitker's not the same manager he was 4-5 years ago.

I'm not sure. I'm not going to pretend to be sure, which is why I haven't taken the time to really opine on it.
Ok, I've got to go get my kids from daycare. Early pickup today. Thanks for chatting, everyone! I'm on X @Adams_Steve and Bluesky @adams-steve.bsky.social.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
