He's been used more in low-leverage spots than high-leverage ones, but yeah, it's a little surprising he's even working in close games at all. Then again, he's allowed two runs on three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over his past five innings. I suppose there's a couple unearned runs in there though, and he's still giving up gobs of hard contact.

I don't have a good explanation. Some managers seem to have their guys. Shrug.

In the offseason, who should the Nationals go after to help at 3rd or 1st base and who could they get to bolster the rotation?

I dunno, I kind of think they should just back up the truck to try to bring Soto back and figure everything else out from there, ha. They have a blank payroll pretty much, so they can afford it. But that also means they could afford to pursue basically any pitcher -- be it Burnes/Fried/Snell or the next tier down (Manaea/Severino/Pivetta, etc.)

There's not much at 3B outside of Alex Bregman, now that Chapman signed. I think that spot should be earmarked for Brady House anyhow.

Steve, what do you think about the Twins apparently trying Royce Lewis at 2B. Second is usually regarded as harder than third, so it is mostly a matter of his arm not being accurate enough, or because Miranda can play 3B?

I think they just feel Royce is athletic enough to play anywhere and want to keep Miranda and his bat in the lineup, along with Carlos Santana and his post-April production and defense at 1B.
