How you doing?
We need to talk ... about how they screwed up your team's retro-park

More HR this year. Judge or Bautista?
Travis Sawchik
12:02
Man, it's looking like Judge and it won't be close
12:03
Bautista might be wrong about his ability to beat aging models ... It's early, but that K% is troubling

Piggybacking on your stadium article: should teams re-evaluate concession prices? I think everyone understands they can be charged a little more as a captive audience, but when beers are $12 and hot dogs are $10, it feels exploitative and makes going to a game both far more expensive and a bummer. Did teams cross a line on this where they valued profit maximization too highly and degraded the fan experience too much?
Travis Sawchik
12:04
That's a good question. I'm sure there is a lot that goes into finding a price point ... but perhaps there should be different price points in different parts of the park. I don't think someone sitting in the front row will go to the third deck to save $2 on a beer if they were priced differently

I don't want to pretend to veil a fantasy baseball question, but would you rather have a guy like Yadier Molina who plays almost every day or take a flier on a guy like Jett Bandy or Austin Hedges who may be in a timeshare?
Travis Sawchik
12:05
I'd rather have Austin Hedges and, at this point, in real life too (if this was really a fantasy question)
Did anyone notice what Hedge did last week? Looks like he might have learned how to hit last season

How sexy is Severino's 32.9% K-BB%? and 0.80 Whip?
Travis Sawchik
12:06
I don't know about everyone else, but I am into those rates ... What's up with a 4.01 ERA? lol

Travis - great piece on stadium architecture. Do you think the Oakland A's are a good candidate to break the cookie-cutter mold that Camden set in 1991?
Travis Sawchik
12:08
Thanks! There was a comment on that post that suggested the A's are thinking about breaking the mold with a much more intimate park - obstructed seating! - and wooden bleachers? I have to look into this. Sounds great, if true

Loved the article on ballpark design. I have not been to many across the country, but I definitely enjoyed Wrigley and Busch do to location. Lots of options around the stadium. I live in Milwaukee and Miller Park is far from anything exciting. The parked a "Fridays" restaurant in the stadium and that's about it! Would've been much cooler if placed downtown - especially with all of the history, breweries, and dining options the city has to offer. I think they missed out big time there.
Travis Sawchik
12:09
I could not agree more, Jack. I always enjoyed visiting Milwaukee as a traveling beat writer. It baffled me that it was not placed downtown. Seems so obvious. ... But, hey, you've got wall flair at Fridays, right?

How long until head hunting gets you a long and automatic suspension? Throwing at the head is potentially lethal. And dishonorable mention to the NESN announcers for spending the entire event complaining that the HBP call was wrong and the ball hit the bat.
Travis Sawchik
12:11
Yeah, there's no place in the game for it and I'm all for tougher penalties... There's part of me that would love to play Judge Mountain Landis and create some deterrence

Which of the three underperforming hitters are you most concerned about: Hosmer, Victor Martinez, Roughned Odor.
Travis Sawchik
12:12
Hosmer. I'm not sure he's a very good baseball player. Neither is my boss: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-leaderboard-of-interest-to-potential-...

Which of the three underperforming pitchers are you most concerned about: Maeda, Lackey, Shoemaker
Travis Sawchik
12:12
Shoemaker has shown some life. I'm still believing in that second half

How good can Bundy really be ROS? He shut down the Red Sox his last turn, what can he do against the lesser teams?
Travis Sawchik
12:13
Pretty darn good. He can fit near the top of a rotation. He's a different guy with the cutter/slider back
12:14
Let Bundy perhaps be a lesson to teams to let pitchers throw their best pitches. We really have no idea what pitch types most stress arms ... Henry Ford Hospital study found that fastball usage is actually most connected to TJ

Are better days ahead for Giants starting pitchers? Besides the Bumgarner injury, Moore and Samardjiza have really struggled. What's going on there?
Travis Sawchik
12:16
Moore and Samadjiza aren't special even when they're right. Giants are in some trouble
Blasphemy
12:17
What do we make of Jason Heyward's strong start? Sustainable? Or blip on the screen?
Travis Sawchik
12:18
The rebuild might have worked ... And the Cubs also got Schwarber in a great place for the World Series after missing most of the year. Cubs' hitting staff might be able to do some major value-add

Loved the piece on ballpark construction. Isn't there an argument to be made in favor of a more vertical perspective though? I sat in the front row of the top level at New Yankew Stadium and found the views great. Sure, it's not behind the dugout, but it was $35 for an intra division Yankee game.
Travis Sawchik
12:19
Thank you, handsome. As opposed to horizontal?... I'm not sure. I do know I want to be as close to the field as possible.

12:20
So how much regression are you expecting from Kyle Hendricks this year. Mike P seems to think that is ability to generate soft contact may be sustainable. What are your thoughts on this and where do you think his end of season ERA may end up around?
Travis Sawchik
12:20
Well, if I knew he was going to throw an 85 mph fastball I would expect a lot!

12:21
Leonys Martin.....Pirates and Tigers should be interested, no?

Absolutely

April is supposed to be early, but late is coming early for TOR and SFG, isn't it?
Travis Sawchik
12:22
It certainly feels that way. I do believe you can lose a season in April, like losing a top 5 SP to injury
Thorne
12:22
Your take on the whole Machado/Pedroia/unwritten rules situation?
Travis Sawchik
12:23
I think too much was made of Machado's slide ... certainly did not warrant a pitch to the head
