I'm not sure we're going to see 100 mph become the new benchmark as Tom House suggests ... but when the Yankees can average 98 mph in a start, we're not close to Peak Velocity
12:23
Hitters have adapted but they can only adapt so much

Do you think Judge is getting a fair strike zone?
Travis Sawchik
12:23
No
12:24
And that's been the case for much of the season
Randy
12:24
If you had to go one way or the other, more likely ALCS ends in 5 games or ends in 7 games?
Travis Sawchik
12:24
Five

It seems like this offseason the majority of teams are going to be clearly fine-tuning as contenders (Red Sox, Giants, Dbacks, Indians) or are clearly rebuilding/cutting salary (Marlins, White Sox, Phillies).  Who falls into the middle group of waiting it out until the deadline to see?
Travis Sawchik
12:26
Angels/Twins/Rockies .... There will always be surprises, but I agree that there's a pretty clear-cut landscape of the contenders and non-contenders
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe
12:27
Joe Maddon is a good manager of people and egos, but I still contend that the Cubs won the World Series last year in spite of him being at the helm. The evidence continues to pile up.
David
12:27
So do we still consider Joe Maddon an elite manager and tactician after this postseason?
Travis Sawchik
12:28
I think Maddon mismanaged the Lackey/Davis call last night, and he had some missteps in the WS last year, but I think the managing people part is still probably the most important part of the job
And I don't think he regularly butchers decisions

Can we get a Sacre Bleu update???
Travis Sawchik
12:30
I'm so glad you asked! Spring training is nearing its conclusion, my HBD team is attempting to become the third team in league [BBWAA league] history to threepeat

Could josh Bell play 1B and RF to allow Pirates to pursue a 1B bat in FA?
Travis Sawchik
12:31
I like Bell better at 1B, and Pirates have to hope Polanco offers more in RF ... So I'm not sure they'd go in that direction

12:32
With Maddon claiming that Davis couldn't be used because "[they] needed him for the save", do you think he actually meant that, or was it more of a throwaway answer for mainstream media/casual fans who still mostly believe "the closer is the closer because he is the closer"?
Travis Sawchik
12:32
I think it was an over simplification ... He had one inning from Davis and was hoping to save it
Terry's Sarape
12:33
Significance of Verlander's 124 pitches?   Was that the best pitching performance of the playoffs thus far?
Travis Sawchik
12:33
Great performance. Trevor Bauer in Game 1 of the ALDS was pretty good, too
Alec Asher Wojciechowski
12:33
That was a terrible decision to send Altuve.
Travis Sawchik
12:33
Poor process, good result. Astros will take it
Julio
12:34
How is it that the Dodgers can keeping taking players like Barnes, Taylor and Turner and turn them into stars?
Travis Sawchik
12:34
Pretty remarkable. Turner is more of a self-made star, I believe, but it's great value-adding
Terry's Sarape
12:34
Scale of 1-10, how compelling is each Championship Series?
Travis Sawchik
12:35
They 2-0 leads make them slightly less compelling, but you couldn't really ask for better good-on-good matchups. I'll give LAD-CHC an 8.5 and HOU-NYY an 8
Fangraphs lurker
12:36
How amazing was Verlander's sequences of pitches to Gary Sanchez in game 1? curve barely in the zone to start him off, a slider that breaks away low and makes Sanchez look silly, then a fastball down the middle to freeze him......wonderful.
Travis Sawchik
12:36
I don't know how important sequencing is ... but I suspect it's pretty important

Re: best pitching performance

Also Strasburg, especially if he was really sick and had teh Nats won game 5 it would've been "the Mold Game"
Travis Sawchik
12:37
Actually, Strasburg might have been the best. That was a remarkable performance

With their farm system seemingly in need of some serious refurbishing, shouldn't the Marlins be thinking of a complete fire sale? I'm wondering why I don't hear names like Justin Bour tossed in with the usual suspects Ozuna, Yelich, et al.
Travis Sawchik
12:38
It should be under consideration, but I'd be leery of a first-year executive (Jeter) leading such a project

12:39
True/False: Brandon Morrow will be a more sought after reliever this off-season than Greg Holland or Wade Davis.
Travis Sawchik
12:40
True. Holland's second half was concerning and Davis' command has taken a step back
M
12:40
Giants as contenders? I get that bumgarner, posey, Crawford is a solid core, but it would seem they need a bit more than just "fine tuning"
Travis Sawchik
12:41
I'd place the Giants in the in-between category
jkim
12:42
Is Kershaw tired? Saw him clocking 91 mph fastballs regularly, and unable to throw them in the zone.

Are his postseason problems (at least THIS postseason) from fatigue, or his inability to throw high fastballs like Rich Hill?
Travis Sawchik
12:42
Kershaw's velo was down
