And a lot of FAs will be available in February
There could be a lot of value in February

Why don't teams front load contracts? Wouldn't it be beneficial for teams with low current salary commitments to do this so they have less money to pay to a player on the tail end of a big contract?
Travis Sawchik
12:41
The Phillies have done some of this ... Makes sense for teams with lower payroll commitments
ATCQ

Should we pay more attention when infielders are converted to the outfield?  Like, when Dee Gordon moved to CF, that took away one of an already small number of buyers for CFers, thus hurting the CF market for Cain/Dyson considerably.  #supplyanddemand
Travis Sawchik
12:42
That didn't help Cain, for sure.  And it's the easier transition to make, going out inside of in
Wes
12:42
What are the odds Ohtani finishes the season with 0 service time after undergoing TJS in spring training?
Travis Sawchik
12:42
Greater than zero

Let's say the Pirates do trade Cutch, Cole, and Harrison. They have to go all in and trade the other pieces too, right? Marte, Polanco, Taillon, Glasnow all have value. Maybe they wait until the deadline for some of those players to build their value higher?
Travis Sawchik
12:43
Depends how deeply they want to rebuild ... I'd be surprised if Taillon was moved
12:44
The other issue is how many buyers are there out there for a Marte or Polanco?
Royals ZiPS
12:44
Have you taken a look at the Royals ZiPS, which came out today? Oof. It’s looking pretty ugly in KC
Travis Sawchik
12:44
Not great
CamdenWarehouse
12:46
who is your pick for worst record this year?
Travis Sawchik
12:46
Royals, Marlins and White Sox could have a good race to the bottom ...
Richard
12:47
Regarding your TJ article: I wonder if pitchers throwing harder but still maintaining that old school attitude to stay in the game as long as they can could be to blame for the rise in TJ injuries.  Now that these guys are getting pulled earlier, could that explain the decrease in injuries?
Travis Sawchik
12:47
Part of it could be small samples, more alternative methods .... but I'd like to think all this obsession over workload is having an impact
ATCQ
12:47
Did the Royals give up too much (Scott Alexander) just to dump a few mil in salary (Soria)?  Didn't Soria have some value of his own?  Or is Trevor Oaks the real deal?
Travis Sawchik
12:48
I thought the return was light. Alexander is Zach Britton Lite ... he was last year, at least
Bort
12:49
I'm still holding a candle for Dilson Herrera. Is it time to let it go?>
Travis Sawchik
12:49
Dilson needs a big year, yeah
LegallyEagle
12:49
Shouldn't the Dodgers look to trade Grandal and get something for him before he hits FA?
Travis Sawchik
12:50
Yeah, but they also have more short-term interests (winnigng WS) than most teams
Justino
12:50
Why all the talk about the Cubs upgrading CF with Yelich or Cain, given what it would cost them? Is there anything I am missing when watching Almora Jr? It looks like he is ready to take over an every day role, but apparently Theo or Joe disagree.
Travis Sawchik
12:50
I'd be focused on pitching
ATCQ
12:50
Do Twins sign a 3B like Frazier, given Sano's uncertainty?  Or just focus money on pitching?
Travis Sawchik
12:51
I could see Frazier signing as an insurance option if the price is right
ATL
12:51
who do you like more over the next 5 years: Albies or Moncada?
Travis Sawchik
12:51
Albies is better than many think ... but I'd still take Moncada
Floyd
12:52
Hi Travis - who do you have more faith in as a starter - Trevor Williams (soft contact in 2017) or Chad Kuhl (+velo, expanding repertoire but too many walks) or both? - thanks!
Travis Sawchik
12:52
Kuhl, I think ... as you mentioned the velo and expanding pitch offerings

Right now Pujols is at 89 WAR and Beltre is at 84. Suppose Pujols adds 1 WAR before he retires and Beltre adds 6 and they both ended with an even 90. In your opinion which is more impressive/valuable, Pujols with his peak or Beltre with his longevity?
Travis Sawchik
12:53
Two amazing players ... I'd rather have Pujols' peak, though

Could the dodgers keeping 2 very good catchers be an example of a good player that actually produces negative value (through opportunity cost and that one cannot produce while the other is playing) for the team? Considering how few good catchers are playing now, much less available ones, couldn’t they extract more value by trading one? Whether for prospects or to help upgrade somewhere else?
Travis Sawchik
12:54
Barnes is athletic enough to play in a UTL role at times, too. They just have such a competitive advantage there, i'd want a big return on one year of Grandal

12:56
I feel like Judge has a much bigger chance of being a 3 WAR type guy than he does to have another season similar to last year. How far off am I?
Travis Sawchik
Craig in CHI
12:57
Why isn't a contender targeting Bour?  That guy was great, last year.
Travis Sawchik
12:58
Quite a few guys like Bour available
Pip
12:58
Doesn't Grandal make a lot more sense than Realmuto? Why break the farm when you can get one year of an equally valuable catcher for significantly less? I still have a hard time invisioning the dodgers going with both to start the season.
