Would the Blue Jays still have budget left for someone like Lynn or Cobb? Would you prioritize starting pitching over bullpen adds for them at this point?
Travis Sawchik
12:44
If the Blue Jays landed one of the top four SPs remaining, that would be kind of interesting

When Eric Hosmer signs with the Padres (or whoev), what does he do with all his Royals swag?  Dude's gotta have mountains of the stuff--t-shirts, shorts, etc.  One giant-ass trip to Goodwill?  I think about this everytime a dude changes teams.
Travis Sawchik
12:46
Hosmer could probably clothe everyone in this chat room for the next three years

In ZIPS, are the comps for current players to be regarded as comps for that player in a specific season. Michael Brantley is compared to Jim Edmonds, but I’m wondering-which Jim Edmonds?
Travis Sawchik
12:46
Age 31 Jim Edmonds
12:47
Who was a 6-win player!

At the end of the day, I could have lived with the Cole return if I weren't so sad at the departure of McCutchen. The Pirates had a shot at their Craig Biggio or Derek Jeter and blew it.
Travis Sawchik
12:50
From an emotional aspect, yeah, I get it. Pirates took a PR fit that will be tangibly seen in attendance this season. But they were never going to invest in McCutchen's 30s

Players changing teams = swag bonanza for the people around them. So much team issue luggage, workout gear, etc
Travis Sawchik
12:50
I feel for those people who were gifted late 1990s Devil Rays gear

“When Eric Hosmer signs with the Padres (or whoev), what does he do with all his Royals swag?  Dude's gotta have mountains of the stuff--t-shirts, shorts, etc.  One giant-ass trip to Goodwill?  I think about this everytime a dude changes teams.” This is the sort of spring training piece that we need Eno to do.
Travis Sawchik
12:51
Eno has already had one negative experience with Eric

To what extent is the fear of the long contract a factor in the slowness of the market (as opposed to "saving for harper"), and to that, to what extent does that potentially change the look of whatever deals are handed out next offseason?
Travis Sawchik
12:52
I think we're going to see shorter deals for non-superstars. For instance, there have been no deals longer than three years for anyone to date this offseason

McCutchens HR total with the giants? +/- 18?
Travis Sawchik
12:53
McCutchen is going to the only park less favorable than PNC for RHH power ... but he gets 18 games in Coors and Chase, so I'd take the over

Outside of JDM to Boston, what's the one FA signing/trade you are surprised has not happened yet?
Travis Sawchik
12:54
I'm surprised Darvish has't signed somewhere. Usually the top arms are off the board at this point
Cory

Crazy idea, but the Pirates need an OF to replace Cutch and a PR win. Why not kick the tires on Yelich? Young, cheap, cost controlled, all things they love. I know Meadows and Glasnow have lost a little shine, but that would be a solid starting point, one would think. It would also show the pitchfork wielding fans that maybe they are serious about winning.
Travis Sawchik
12:54
Not a terrible idea since they don't plan on having a long down period
Sonny
12:55
Zimmer is comp'd to Jim Edmonds, Brantley comp'd to Wally Moses. Jim Edmonds is a hell of a comp
Travis Sawchik
12:55
That is a hell of a comp

If prices are really to start falling, someone like Jake Arrieta could actually make some sense for the Angels, no? Their rotation is deep but definitely fragile.
Travis Sawchik
12:55
I actually matched Arrieta with the Angels in my ESPN piece last week
12:56
Angels should be aggressive, Twins, too

Do you believe a GM consistently "winning" trades impacts other teams desire to work with them in the future? Cole's return compared to the rumored Yankees offer strikes me as Cashman ninja fatigue.
Travis Sawchik
12:57
Pirates and Yankees have made quite a few trades recently so I don't think that was a factor

As a Cubs fan I am a little concerned about the Brewers interest in Darvish. Brewers look like they have a solid core of everyday players, a top of the rotation arm is something they really need to close the gap between themselves and the Cubs. Maybe the market is picking up after all.
Travis Sawchik
12:58
Brewers have been connected to a number of the top SPs. I feel the Cubs' pitching is a little vulnerable. Maybe this will get the Darvish bidding war going

Any reason to think Sterling Marte wont return to form in '18? Will Cutch's absence have any affect on his numbers?
Travis Sawchik
12:59
I think Marte will bounce back to his previous form

What would it take to get Lucroy to Oakland? 2/24?
Travis Sawchik
1:00
I'd be hesitant to give Lucroy multiple years given the way his framing has trended

Something i've been paying attention to: The Dodgers are publicly trying to reset the luxury tax this year. They are also playing an on the record, off the record game with the press about debt service rules. Somebody in the org whispers to a beat writer that they are restricted by it, and then Stan Kasten publicly says it has no impact at all.  What's happening here?
Travis Sawchik
1:01
The public message is often very different than the private/anonymous one ... It does seem like the ideal year to reset your tax status

The Yankees have about $22m left before they hit the LT. Some of that has to go to midseason call ups, etc. but how do you see them spending the rest?
Travis Sawchik
1:02
Moustakas could be an interesting fit if the price drops enough, and maybe Cobb on a short-term deal
AdamZ

What's sadder, having a franchise icon spend the rest of his career with the team, but getting worse and worse, or seeing him traded when he is still decent (but sparing you watching his decline years)?
Travis Sawchik
1:03
Wins are most important to creating fan interest ... The one-player, one-team notion is romantic but pretty rare and not an optimum practice for many clubs
