Should the braves be looking to pick up another prospect bat w/ all the pitching they have? Or should they wait to trade for an experienced bat when they are competing?
Travis Sawchik
12:28
They could sign 29-year-old Mike Moustakas for a massive discount later this spring

If Jake Arrieta thinks he can do better than the Darvish deal, how much is he looking for and who out there would actually give it to him?
Travis Sawchik
12:29
He can't and no one (Well, maybe the Nats)

(Some) Cubs fans flipping out at a contract that pays Darvish $21 mil/year after just paying the corpse of Lackey $16 mi/year is kind of funny.
Travis Sawchik
12:30
This is happening? Pretty good deal for Cubs who needed another impact arm
David
12:30
Who says no?
Twins trade: Kepler, Gordon, Romero
Rays trade: Archer, Span
Travis Sawchik
12:31
Rays
Lazzaro Da Fietta
12:32
Has the Central passed the West as the strongest NL Division?
Travis Sawchik
12:33
No, but gap has closed. Dodgers are still class of the league, imo, which swings balance

If you were at the helm for the Cardinals, would you be trying to make another off-season move to keep up with the Cubs/Brewers, or would you wait and see what the first half of the 2018 season brings?
adub
12:33
Win difference too great now for the Cardinals to close the gap on the Cubs?
Travis Sawchik
12:34
Cubs have a significant edge (6 games by our projections) and Brewers are closing in ... I'd be looking for another upgrade
David
12:34
If the contract is equal, who do you prefer: Lynn or Cobb?
Travis Sawchik
12:35
Cobb. I want to see where he is another year removed from surgery, and I think he could still get that split-change back. I think he has more upside where Lynn is what he is and outperformed his true skillset last year

Meg Rowley should probably get a chat.
Travis Sawchik
12:36
Meg would be a great chat host
12:37
hostess!

why haven't the yankees moved Clint Frazier yet? No interest?
Travis Sawchik
12:37
They would have flipped him for Gerrit Cole, they can wait for the right fit

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I like STL's position.  Glove-first C to replace Molina, youth in the infield, Weaver/Reyes/Flaherty and a bullpen full of fire... They're not Astros good, but they're young and talented.
Travis Sawchik
12:38
Cards are in pretty good long-term shape, I think. But perhaps not looking like a super team

12:39
Who says no? Cardinals trade: Flaherty, Bader, Kelly, and Hudson. Rays trade Archer.
Travis Sawchik
12:40
Cards? But I'd love Archer on the Cards

If tanking were to become an untenable solution to rebuilding and players get paid what they're worth, then how can small market teams compete?  If they are unable or unwilling to spend more than they have historically, then what avenue would they have to building a competitive roster?
Travis Sawchik
12:43
They can still draft and develop well, though there would usually be longer down cycles ... A cap-and-floor system might help
small-market owners are doing just fine

Why is Lance Lynn being discussed as something close to an elite starting pitcher this year? His FIP (4.82) was even worse than Andrew Cashner's (4.61). Cashner is rightly being treated like a backend starter, yet people keep saying things like, "If they can get Lance Lynn they'll be a contender." Am I missing something, or does Lance Lynn have the league's greatest PR department?
Travis Sawchik
12:45
I don't think any team seems to believe Lynn is elite ... Probably one of the more over-rated free agents out there

The Cards did make a big move - apparently they added Bud Norris.

If the Jays or O's finally get the itch to move Donaldon or Machado, what do you think the return is and who do you think is worth more in talent return? (assuming the Jays would take money back to bring down Donaldson salary to match Machado)
Travis Sawchik
12:47
Orioles should have moved Machado a while back ... Blue Jays are in a tougher spot. But I'd lean toward keeping Donaldson given he has just one year remaining and they could contend

12:47
how likely is it the Cubs go with a 6 man rotation considering the injury proneness and age of some of their starters?
Travis Sawchik
12:47
Seems unlikely
Justin
12:48
The Pirates' projection has dropped from like 78 to 70 without any additional subtractions.  What changed?
Travis Sawchik
12:49
Good question. And a better one for Jeff Sullivan who is now playing God with the depth charts

12:49
What if the owners aren't colluding against the free agents, but against Scott Boras? None of his clients have signed, but (relatively) plenty of others have signed.
Travis Sawchik
12:49
I think that's pretty unlikely ... Boras believes in the waiting game but I think he misread the landscape

Travis, people like Lynn because he is only 30 and the last 5 years, discounting the one he was out for TJ, he has given you 175+ innings and a sub 4 ERA each year.... His peripherals took a turn for the worst last season, but it was his first post TJ and he still performed.
