I know the season wasn't always this long, but was the schedule always so wonky to start the season? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the schedule made by like one old couple for decades until they retired not that long ago? I wonder what the lack of a human touch has to do with the bad scheduling lately.

Baseball's 162 game season is a marathon, and a big part of the attraction. Want to shorten the overall season? fewer rest days during the playoffs, forcing teams to rely on the 25 man roster the same way they do during the regular season.
