BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY IT'S ALWAYS BEEN DONE
12:55
A five-game series might complicate schedule road travel and balancing schedules
12:56
But it would certainly be more fair to have to face an entire rotation each series

Billy Beane is at his best when he's buying at a deadline.  Who would be his craziest realistic acquisition before July 31?

Would you support/reject MLB expanding its playoff field to mirror the NFL - 6 teams total, top 2 get byes. The 4 teams in the "Wild Card Series" would get to play a 5 game series and give each fan base a taste of playoff baseball at home.

Once MLB goes to 32 teams, I suspect we'll have something similar

Do the Bucs become sellers now? Or do they wait to see after their jaunt thru Ohio commencing Friday? Besides, what can they realistically get for ANY of their players, other than salary relief, right?

Hi Lee! The Pirates are effectively out of it with 7.1% playoff odds. I don't know that they have a ton of meaningful assets to sell. Cervelli if he's healthy? They control a lot of their roster but is the core good enough  going forward to contend? I think there's a case for a deeper rebuild and spinning off players controlled for multiple years

If you are the Yankees, and what seems likely occurs (win about 100 games, but second place), that is a giant improvement from 91 wins last year, but considering how last October went, do you consider it a step back if they don't go as far? Or do you relax and consider they are likely to stay good for a bit here?

Yankees can still with the division. If they win 100 games and finish second, I think you still have to be pleased with the process and the amount of young talent that's under control with coming payroll flexibility

I don't see how you could have a 5 game wild card series with 2 byes.  Top 2 teams with a week off would be at a huge disadvantage quite frankly.  Just don't think byes work.

I'm all for a best-of-three with a doubleheader or the KBO-style best of two format

Boston has concluded the cupcake portion of their schedule and still has two series with the Indians, one with Houston, while the Yankees have finished playing both.

How much input does a GM have regarding in-game decisions? Surely AA can't be thrilled to see Snit continue to bat Inciarte and his 79 wRC+ leadoff.

There's a lot of communication before and after games but in game it's the manager's show.

Do Cubs rub risk of flushing a good opportunity down the toilet if they don’t make an aggressive SP acquisition- given Darvish medical uncertainty?
Travis Sawchik

Cubs have been super aggressive in adding quality SP the last several years. I guess you could argue their targets, but they haven't undervalued the role

Do you think Chris Sale figures out the 2nd half this season?
Travis Sawchik

He's been on a tear. The AL Cy Young race is going to be great. Bauer a 5-win pitcher at the break

Any guess as to how long Choo's on-base streak will go for?
Travis Sawchik

It will end only when the Sun grows to red giant status and engulfs the inner solar system

Joe Buck will be on the call

The Angels are a frustratingly decent team. Do you think at this point they should make moves to win in the next few seasons or set their sights on rebuilding? And if you think they should start rebuilding do you think that means dealing Trout?

Angels are close but I'd turn an eye to 2019 and beyond

Alright folks, my 3-year-old has asked that I stop chatting so I will oblige
Enjoy the ASG break. Let's reconvene next Monday. Until then, be good and do good
