If the Yankees don't go big fir a SS, are the Royals a potential trade match?  Mondesi? Lopez?
Derek
12:43
Mondesi would be fun but he's almost never healthy. I don't think they will move Lopez.

The Yankees are known to be a team that values analytics. There is no way they are really considering Adrelton Simmons, right? RIGHT?
Derek
12:44
LOL I mean yeah, no team should be seriously considering Simmons to start in 2022. So many people are putting the dots together though and they have liked him in the past.

On a scale of 1-10 how bad would it be for Elvis Andrus being the starting SS next year if it means Matt Olson is on the team.
Derek
12:45
Assuming 10 is the worst? Andrus is a pretty good defender so I suppose I'd be OK with it, though I'll never not be annoyed that they'd have also blown one of the best SS FA markets ever. So I guess 5.

Do you see any potential for a  trade with the Marlins for a SP?
Derek
12:48
Don't think so. They just extended Alcantara so he's out. Sixto is hurt. Rogers is too good and too cheap for them to trade. Maybe Lopez, but why exactly would they be motivated to move him?

I think we are overly optimistic about big Yankee moves. They haven't been active in the FA market (aside from Cole or their own players) in years, and Hal is on the negotiating committee. Plus, Hal keeps saying you don't need to spend $200 m to win. I think any post-lockout additions will be ones that don't break the bank (one-year deals, trades). Please talk me off the ledge.

I'm afraid that I don't really have anything to soothe you here. I was optimistic going into this offseason, thinking that it would be inexcusable to not sign one of the big SS, but now that those reports about stopgap options came out in late Nov/early Dec, I'm down. But I'm generally more pessimistic than some of the other writers at the blog. Randy or Bobby might feel different than me.

Well, that's a little bit of a downer to go out on. But on a more positive note, I want to thank all of you for reading our site and listening to our podcast this year. We're really proud of the content we put out and appreciate everyone sticking around through the pandemic and lockout. Hopefully things get closer to normal in 2022. With that, hope you all have a happy new year! We'll be back next week.
