Hey everyone. Hope your week is going well thus far. Let's jump right in.

From a scale of 1-10, what level of physical pain were you in yesterday when pitchers and catcher were supposed to report? I knew it was inevitable was was still at a solid 8
Derek
12:02
1? The report date kinda snuck up on me anyway, and I've been prepared for a delay anyway.

In 1996, George Costanza said he could get Bonds and Griffey in in the same outfield. He'd trade Leyritz and Bernie for Bonds...who was he trading for Griffey?
Derek
12:03
We all want(ed) things, I guess. Probably would have had to center a deal around Jeter and Pettitte and more to get mid-90s prime Griffey

The owners want more money. The players want more money. All these negotiations are creating push and pulls moving money from one area to another. It seems it is a net zero situation, where the owners will still end up making the same and the players will redistribute the money to younger players. Ultimately, the only way for each side to make an extra 5% is to charge the fans more. Is there a chance we could be looking at $22 beers?
Derek
12:06
There's little to no correlation between food/beverage prices and things like player payroll or how much TV deal revenues increase. We the fans will pay the price regardless of the "push-pull". Just remember it is the owners who make these price decisions, and the Yankees payroll has been stagnant for nearly 20 years now. 20 years! There's a new stadium, massive new TV revenues, the BAM sale, etc. And it is more expensive than ever to go to the stadium. It's not because of the players wanting a better deal. It's on the owners.

Now that the universal DH seems to be happening officially, have you guys looked in to which NL teams don't have an obvious DH to fill that role currently?
Derek
12:08
That may be worthwhile of a post at some point, yeah.
A lot of NL teams will be in the hunt for a DH. Probably aren't too many that are going to be set already.

Over/under on how long the season will be (if we even get one). Also, should MLB lose its monopoly at this point?
Derek
12:10
I dunno, 150? If we get to March without a deal then I would lower that quite a bit. As for the last question, yes
Hornick
12:11
Lets say when the deal is struck, there is 2 weeks between the deal and ST starting. Does this mayhem help or hurt the Yankees?
Derek
12:12
I really don't know. I can't imagine it helps though.
I was trying to come up with a longer answer, but I'm really not sure.

Any hope for Deivi?
Derek
12:13
Of course. Can't give up on him. Just 22 still. His mechanics were a mess last year but are hopefully fixable.
JA
12:13
Which is better, the current Yankees roster or a team made up of the best free agents?
Derek
12:15
Current roster. Yeah, there are two great SS still out there and a great 1B, but the rest are corner bats for the most part. The pitching would stink.

In late 2020, DJ Lemahieu had an injury to his wrist that he went on the IL for.  At the time, they mentioned that he had the same injury on the Rockies and it took him a year to regain his power.  He came back off the IL and continued to hit but not with power so it was forgotten about.  Could this really have been the reason for his reduced offense last year?
Derek
12:17
Maybe in part, but there's a decent amount of evidence that the dejuiced ball hurt him pretty badly too.

Hi what do you thin would be best for the Yankees, The new cba raises the to threshold 245M or the hole fiirst round of the draft is a lottery with no money limits (not happening).
Derek
12:17
245M. More money spent on ML talent vs. amateur talent should win out for the Yankees every time.
John
12:18
How much do Judge's numbers improve with an automated strike zone and all those bad calls at the bottom of the zone eliminated?
Derek
12:18
In theory, a lot. I am curious about how that would change his discipline in the rest of the zone though.

Yankee second and third round draft choices (rounds in which other teams have gotten very good players) have not been very good under Cashman and Directors of Scouting.  Is there any chance of making a total overhaul of this department?
Derek
12:22
The Yankees upper-round drafting has not been great recently, no. But it's easy to look in hindsight at those picks. Much of what happens after round one -- hell, even the first couple of picks of the first round -- takes a good deal of luck too.
12:23
Of course they should be better in those first few rounds, but we should also credit them for some of the later round successes they've had of late too
Draft
12:23
Maybe i've missed it but it doesn't seem an international draft is being discussed at all. This would be a big benefit to the Yankees to have the international advantage for another couple years.
Derek
12:24
The international draft is inevitable, it seems. But yeah, there hasn't been much talk about it of late. And you're right, it'll make it harder on the Yankees.

Any chance that MLB and the players association would support relegation ( last n teams in the league are ineligible to make the post season).  This fixes the tanking problem and for fans of teams out of the play off picture makes games in September very interesting (aka. more eyes watching the games and more fans in the seats).
Derek
12:25
Nope, not going to happen. The owners would never sign off on it, for one.
12:26
There are a myriad of other issues with facilities, who owns the minor league franchises (now that a lot of ML teams are buying their minor league teams) etc.
Joe Carter
12:26
Blue Jays scare me , they have $$$ and a better farm system, can they get Story , Olson + one of the A's pitchers ?
Derek
12:28
I can't speak to their farm, but they need pitching more than Story/Olson.
12:29
The offense is gonna be a force to be reckoned with for years to come already. They just effectively swapped Ray for Gausman, which seems like a downgrade. Ryu is getting older, Berrios is good but not great. All that said, they're probably a 90 win team
Ted Lilly
12:29
2 guys that need a change of scenery Miguel Andújar and Carter Kieboom , what else would yanks have to throw in ?
Derek
12:31
Andujar has almost no value, if any. I'm still surprised the Yankees didn't non-tender him. I would be interested in buying low on Kieboom though. Maybe something more like Deivi for Kieboom works.
Moe Howard
12:32
This won't happen, but if Hal decided to authorize Cashman to spend $350 how do the rest of the owners respond?  What would the Dodgers do?
Derek
12:33
The owners would be pissed but there wouldn't be much they could do except kick and scream. The penalties are/will be outlined in the CBA, and the other owners have/would have agreed to those penalties, so that would be that even though they *want* a hard cap.
