Yes, definitely. He's really good when he's healthy. I already like the Yanks' rotation a lot but Flaherty is someone worth pursuing nonetheless.

Tagging onto that Correa cheating questions, doesn't Correa have some similar issues to A-Rod?  His defiant in-your-face attitude about the cheating scandal?  His recent declaration that didn't deserve gold gloves.
Derek
12:32
I think he'd have to issue a better public mea culpa to come here, so that theoretically would help.
12:33
I don't know how much traction the Jeter GG comment actually got. I had to refresh my memory on it. I'm sure the media would dredge that back up though.

Correa / A-Rod - biggest difference is that like you already noted, A-Rod was just terrible with the media. Other big difference imo is that A-Rod was a generational player, not a mere star.

Let's say Dominguez has a year similar to what Volpe did in 2021.  That could put him on track to debut by mid season in 2023.  By that time, Volpe and Sweeney could be going through their own growing pains.  What I'm getting at here is would the Yankees be willing to have more than one rookie break in during a season they intend to compete in?
Derek
12:37
If a player is ready I don't think they will hesitate to break them in.
Doesn't matter whether they are a rookie or not.

I have high hopes for Hicks as he's been pretty good when healthy. What do you think?
Derek
12:38
I'm a little nervous because returns from wrist surgery aren't always great right away. Said this before but I'd like him to assume the Brett Gardner role going forward.
12:40
Queue could use some additional questions. I'll wait a couple minutes for it to fill up again.

I think Gil should start the season as the #5 SP.  His stuff is ready, it's a matter of getting the command to a manageable level.  What do you think about this?
Derek
12:43
Cole-Severino-Monty-Cortes-German is probably what you're going to see if everyone gets through camp healthy (remember Taillon will miss April at the least). Gil's command does need some refinement and that's better served at Triple-A.
Yuck

I like Gallo , and i hope he has a great year , but we traded prospects ( a few good ones) for  a guy  that hasn't hit over .200 in 2 years , strikes out a ton, this trade screamed analytics (LH bat , HR's , walks a ton) , this is the last thing they need another high power high strike out guy, Would you consider trading him once strike ends ?
Derek
12:44
Let's clarify -- it's a lockout, not a strike. Huge, huge difference.
12:45
Now, as for the question: I'd keep him. They need to improve the offense, not subtract from it, and I don't think removing Gallo from the equation does that even if his game isn't pretty.
12:47
Might wrap this up early today if there are no more questions. I realize there's not much to discuss at the moment anyway. Maybe next week we'll have better news on the labor front. Anyway, I'll stick around for a couple more minutes just in case.

Which current Yankee would you most want a share a beer with?
Derek
12:50
uhh
12:51
Gardner technically isn't current but I guess I'd say him? Longest tenured Yankee, clubhouse prankster, etc.
Tyler
12:51
MTPS, but Peraza, Wells, and Schmidt for Olson.  Too little, too much, or just right in your opinion?
Derek
12:51
Too little. Wells may not be able to catch and Schmidt is rarely healthy.
12:53
Alright, I'm calling it here. Thanks for chatting, we'll talk again next week.
