If that's the case...I guess Duncan was more believable? IIRC there were the Boston/Teix rumors, the link to Baltimore too. The Teix deal came together kinda quickly for the Yanks as I remember it.

What do you have a better chance of:  making contact on an at  bat against Cole (any contact) or catching a rocket down the third baseline?
Derek
12:31
Lol there is zero chance I make contact against Cole. I think I might be able to snag a line drive at third, maybe...at least it's further than the distance from the mound to the plate, so I'd have more reaction time?
12:35
Sorry I got interrupted over here.
B
12:36
who's your prospect breakout this year (like volpe last yr)
Derek
12:37
I don't feel like I know the depths of the system to pick someone who hasn't already been mentioned at some of the big publications/websites. But I feel like Trey Sweeney has been a popular name thrown around by others, so I'll go with him.
Liam
12:38
will we ever see Derek Jeter at the old timers game? is it a conflict of interest because he is with the marlins now?
Derek
12:39
i don't think it's a conflict of interest really. maybe i'm wrong but haven't coaches/managers from teams who happen to be the opponent that day have played in the game?
It might take a few years for it to happen, he may not like the idea of being an Old Timer haha
Or maybe the perfect scenario would be a year the Marlins come to Yankee Stadium, and they schedule it for that day
Bart
12:40
How about an educated guesstimate on how long this lockout lasts and or how many games there will be this year?
Derek
12:40
I wish I could actually give you an educated guess. My gut is saying 145 right now. Mid-to-late April start.
Chip
12:41
Is it safe to say the Yankees are a lot like the Steelers now?  Storied franchises which haven't won since the late 2000's, haven't had a losing season, but have stagnated a bit.
Derek
12:41
I guesso? I have not followed the NFL closely for a good 6 or 7 years to be honest. I keep tabs on it but the Jets have been mostly terrible.
I was gonna say the Cowboys might be a better comp, but they haven't won the super bowl since what, 95 or whatever?
Jeb
12:42
What are you going to do to get your baseball fix once the wave of prospect lists (klaw, fg) is done?
Derek
12:43
I probably won't. I can't get into college baseball really. So I'll just watch the NBA for the time being.
I will get MLB The Show once it's out though, but hopefully we'll have the lockout over and done with by then. So that would be my next baseball fix if MLB doesn't return.
Liam
12:45
Is Brett Gardner going to be back?
Derek
12:45
I'll never bet against his return at this point
Rob
12:46
Let's say Cashman announces he's retiring once this upcoming season(I think there will be one) is over.  Do you see the Yankees going outside to organization to find his successor?  They've done it for player development and the coaching staff for the ML team.
Derek
12:48
So those outside choices have been more of Cashman's call, no? I kind of feel like Hal will want to go with someone he knows, but that's just me totally speculating. Fishman, Naehring, etc seem like internal plug ins that would effectively give Hal what he wants: another Cashman
12:49
Another Cashman probably isn't the right phrasing - he's a HOF executive. What I am saying is someone Hal can have a relationship with similar to Cashman
Jeb
12:50
Would you do the Taillon trade again, if given the choice?
Derek
12:50
Yeah, why not? I know Contreras has broken out as a top 100 guy now, but the timeline wasn't right for him given where the Yankees currently stand.
Cory
12:53
Any interest in bringing Sonny Gray back?
Derek
12:54
Ehh. I think it would actually work out and he'd mesh with Matt Blake better than he did with Larry Rothschild, but I'm still hesitant nonetheless.
Queue is low on questions, so please get your last minute questions in before we wrap up at 1.

There has been debate over Gil's future.  Some say he's going to be a reliever, others think he can stick as a starter.  Does this sound similar to when Sevy came up?  BTW, I say let him start until he shows he can't do it.
Derek
12:55
I want Gil to keep starting too. I don't think the comp to Severino works though. Gil's concern is more command related, whereas I think there was some worry about Severino being able to handle a starter's workload.
Jeb
12:56
Food for thought - is part of baseball's competitive issue that the rewards for winning aren't strong enough because of revenue sharing?
Derek
12:56
It's a big part of it, for sure.
Bart
12:56
Do you think Rizzo would be a decent resign if we got a CF, SS, and another starting pitcher? Maybe a 2 year deal?
Derek
12:58
Rizzo would be fine as a stopgap, really. Austin Wells could be that 1B down the road internally. But it all depends on the team's other moves. If Rizzo is the best player they bring in (bring back, really), it's an atrocious offseason.

Alright, I'm calling it. Thanks for chatting. Maybe we'll have something more substantial to talk about next week, labor wise. Until then, have a great rest of your week everyone.
