Derek
12:01
Hey everybody, I've got roughly an hour to chat this afternoon. Let's jump right in.
Chris Carter
12:01
Do you think the Orioles over-corrected with their ballpark dimensions now that it is the least friendly park for hitters in the American League?
Derek
12:02
Yep, I do, not to mention I think it looks really ugly. Way to sorta ruin a really nice park.
Not to mention that it hurts some of the guys they're trying make part of their core like Mountcastle.
Mark
12:03
What is the longest winning streak the Yankees have ever had in their history?
Derek
12:03
A quick google search says 19 in 1947.
12:04
If you have an eye on the record, they've got tonight in Toronto, then three at home vs. Texas, two more at home vs. Toronto, and then a roadtrip to Chicago and Baltimore.
12:05
They'd reach 19 next weekend against the White Sox if they keep this up.
Mark
12:05
Has this streak adjusted the expectation of this team? How disappointing would it be if they fell short of a division title? (I know it's very early, but this streak has me excited)
Derek
12:06
It's definitely making me feel better about the team, but I'm trying to not get too far ahead of myself. I was really concerned in the first week or two when it looked like 2021 all over again offensively, along with the bleak 8/9 lineup spots.
I was always very confident in the pitching
Mark
12:07
Who do you prefer as the YES play by play announcer? Kay or Rucco?
Derek
12:08
I think they're both good, but I guess I'd lean Ruocco a little bit. Kay can get on my nerves sometimes, but it's worth a reminder that most other teams have terrible announcers, and that we're pretty lucky with what we've got.

I understand that Domingo German has resumed a throwing program.  When he is ready to return (which is at leasta month or more away), where do you see him fitting in, assuming the surrent staff is still healthy?
Derek
12:10
Let's say he's back by mid-June. The Yanks play 20 straight games from 6/14 to 7/3. Maybe they go 6 man rotation?
Otherwise, it's hard to bump anyone from the rotation for German right now.
I shoulda said 20 games in 20 days, to be clear. No off days.
MBN
12:10
Also regarding German, would he move ahead of Schmidt in the "pecking" order if a starter is needed?
Derek
12:11
Let's see how Schmidt does in Triple-A.
Clarke's stuff may play better in the 'pen ultimately, which could be the swaying factor if we're going between German/Schmidt.
Eric
12:11
Let's ride the optimism. Yankees are in 1st comfortably around the trade deadline. What moves do they make to strengthen the roster (barring any unforeseen major injuries)?
Derek
12:12
I'd expect another bat or two.
12:13
I know the offense has been very good during this streak, but I don't think it should cloud the fact that IKF/catcher is still not a good 8/9. And I know IKF has been playing well. Plus, I'm a little concerned about Gallo and uncertain if Gleyber's rebound is for real or not.
12:14
Something like the EE move from a couple years ago.
Eric
12:14
Does Rortverdt come back directly to the Yankees or get optioned when healthy?
Derek
12:14
At this rate, optioned. Higgy doesn't have any options let, and the staff has taken a liking to Trevino.
Anthony
12:14
Do you think we will ever see a second DH in baseball? Maybe for catchers? Easy way to improve offense
Derek
12:15
Don't think so. I still come back to doing something to lessen the effectiveness of pitchers. They're just too good and getting better. They're basically lab grown nowadays. Lower the mound, maybe.
12:16
Plus, if we're getting ABS, teams can start to go more offensively minded behind the plate anyway as framing won't matter.
Moe Howard

Revisiting last weeks DJ to LF.  It's clear the Yankees have somewhat of a LF issue.  Worth considering either DJ or Torres playing there part time?  Gets Gallo out more and keeps both Torres and DJ in more.  Both are much better than Gallo at this point.
Derek
12:17
No, LF at Yankee Stadium is a big challenge to simply throw a career infielder out there.
Jim
12:17
You said last week you don't want to "Raysify" the Yankees.  But wouldn't you agree the Dodgers have been a model organization since Friedman took over?  They have a nice mix of money making stars, middle class vets, and team controlled players.
Derek
12:20
In some ways, sure. But that's more ownership just willing to take on money (Price to get Betts, for instance).
JT
12:21
not a fan of getting rid of gallo because of upside, but how much does he hurt them if his play continues as is compared to what they can get in a trade for him?
Derek
12:22
Not going to get much for him in a trade right now, especially as a rental.
He just needs to get back to the 110 wRC+ range at this point.
12:23
If he can hit 30 HR, play good defense, and get on base at like a .330 clip, I think he'll be OK. It's just not as good as what I think the Yankees thought they were getting. And I don't think they can replace that in a trade.
Ribby Robby
12:23
who's had single most encouraging performance during the win streak?
Derek
12:24
Hard to single out one guy. DJLM?
Darren
12:24
On a scale of 1-10, how worried are you about Dominguez?  He can hit the ball hard, but it's usually on the ground and strikes out a lot.  With the hype surrounding him, I thought he wouldn't be this bad.
