yeah but do those other countries have local broadcasts by financial juggernauts like Bally Sports?

I think you're forgetting Farmer Needs a Wife, Jay.  Now THAT'S television.

That was last night's excuse. Pleas, no spoilers, I haven't watched the episode yet

US starting a pokemon against japan gives them a clear advantage. why isn't anyone covering this
RTJ
7:26
this is a dumb question but what determined who is Home today?
AvatarJay Jaffe
7:27
I assume it's because Japan had the better record out of pool play

is it just me or is the "wow look at mike trout, finally playing a meaningful baseball game for the first time in his whole life" stuff kinda overdone
Kyle Kishimoto
7:30
as an angels fan my perspective is that the "hurr durr trout and ohtani are finally on good teams" jokes are predicated on an assumption that we don't get to properly appreciate how good they are because they haven't been in the MLB playoffs together, which is just false

It's just you. The rest of us are loving it
7:29
IMO this must be a real Eureka moment for Arte Moreno seeing what it's like for Trout and Ohtani to play games with something big at stat
RTJ
7:30
it's too bad billionaires are incapable of feeling shame because otherwise Arte Moreno would have egg on his face
ryan
7:31
Arte Moreno is throwing his remote at his tv every time they say that

7:31
fair enough! I am definitely enjoying watching Mike Trout be great
Kyle Kishimoto
7:32
anyways Imanaga averaged 19 inches of fastball ivb that inning from a pretty flat release point, he is quite good at baseball

I'm sitting in a dentist's chair right now, so this delay is great.        Although dentistry is preferable to Smoltz in Get Off My Lawn mode.

Mike Trout doing Mike Trout things is always fun, but I think he's become a bit of a cipher given the Angels' lack of success. This adds a much-needed— and very relatable — dimension to him. He can't do it all himself, and he won't show anyone up, but damn it, he does very much care.

Vin Scully on baseball, magic, and the Colorado Rockies

Horrifying link, Dan. Horrifying.

I hope the lead changes every other inning tonight so we get both teams as fired up as many times as possible.
RTJ
7:36
Dan, that's incredible

IT was the fault of one of you!

MY GOD I HATE HIM SO MUCH. SHUT UP ABOUT INTENTIONAL WALKS
7:37
That was the last time Smoltz is going to get to me
AvatarJay Jaffe

The benefit of chatting here is that i can almost completely tune him out most of the time.

The international broadcast is announced by Dave Flemming and Yonder Alonso. Alonso isn't great or anything but he does get excited about the play (it was fun hearing him calling out in Spanish when the Latin American teams hit home runs).
Kyle Kishimoto
7:40
i watched some of him in previous games, i liked him as a broadcaster
AvatarJay Jaffe
7:40
Yeah, Alonso has gotten good marks, and Flemming is good
AvatarDan Szymborski
7:41
Merrill is the name of a character's cousin in a 1950s movie set in Indiana
Now I'm wondering if there's a specific character I'm thinking of that I forgot about
AvatarJay Jaffe
7:41
it's not a great first name
small e
7:42
also, I think that was Yoshida's first strikeout of the tournament
Kyle Kishimoto
7:42
it was
AvatarJay Jaffe
7:43
9-for-19 with 3 walks and 0 K coming in. Pretty good!
RTJ
7:42
Kelly Merrill would be a much more logical name
