Sox have some interesting arms who’ve contributed  in the pen:?Reyno, Jimmy Lambert. Do you see them back in the rotation long term- esp if Gio leaves?
Tim Dierkes

I don't think so...especially for Reynaldo Lopez, he seems to have embraced late inning relief and found his niche.  I think Sean Burke is a pitching prospect they're excited about.

Is there a schedule for these one team only chats so we can plan on joining when our favorite team is up?
Tim Dierkes
10:34
We don't have a schedule hammered out, but these should be announced both in the Offseason in Review post for that type and hopefully the morning Opener post.

If you were Rick Hahn and were working within the budget the Sox are rolling with this year, what would you have done this offseason? Put another way: what would you have liked to see the Sox do differently?
Tim Dierkes
10:35
That is a fun question but I think that given the amount of time Hahn had to plan out his offseason, I'd want to put in similar work to plan mine.
One thing that makes it difficult is that I have no idea what the asking prices were on trades.
10:36
I assume in this scenario I walk into the situation after the regular season ends, with all the contracts Hahn had on the books.  I'm not quite sure what I would have done but I can say a couple of things.
10:38
1) I would not have used most of my resources on Benintendi.  I'm not sure what I would've done in LF, not having a picture of the trade market.  Possibly would've signed Conforto.
2) Probably would have moved a reliever to save money
10:39
3) Would have tried to sign Christian Vazquez
10:40
4) Would have had a better CF backup plan.  Not sure if Kiermaier or Bellinger. Also not clear if Conforto could have been that backup plan
10:41
5) My SP reclamation project would not have been Clevinger.  Probably would have gone for Heaney or Manaea.
So, kinda Giants-ish I guess.

Did they ever consider using Montgomery at second base?
Tim Dierkes
10:43
He's 6'4", so I think the question is whether he might wind up at 3B.  But aside from a little Project Birmingham taste he hasn't really played Double-A.  While we have seen top prospects light up the minors and get to the Majors fast, the Sox can't count on Montgomery for 2023.

It seems like the Sox brought in a lot of veteran outfielders on minor league contracts (Marisnik, Reyes, Hamilton). Why didn’t they take a similar approach to add needed depth to SP and 2B?
Tim Dierkes
10:44
Well, they did that with Hanser Alberto.  I'm not sure who else that would even be for 2B...Jonathan Villar?  I'd rather go with the in-house options there in that case.
SP, the best ones of course get MLB deals.  So if you'

If you're an SP on a milb deal, you're pretty low on the totem pole.
Yay, Minnie!

Did it make any sense for the White Sox to pay for Abreu's late-30s?
Tim Dierkes
10:47
Given the composition of the rest of the roster, particularly Eloy and Vaughn, I have to say no.  I also think paying for Abreu's age 36-38 seasons is questionable in general in a way that the White Sox are less likely to absorb than the Astros.
With that, I'm gonna wrap this thing up.  Thank you so much for joining me today.
