So Chris Bassitt was working really quickly in the Wild Card series, so I got in the habit of running a stopwatch when he caught the throw from the catcher
He was like 10-15 with no runners on
Baez is at about 20

Sadly, I never found any kind of useful predictive information from pace or changes in pace

People who shop at Lowe’s are confused by Brandon Lowe
Jim

You can probably predict fans' enjoyment

The Rays are going to add to this team, right? Like at some point they just kinda have to move people...I like that they finally moved towards full time starters again and have more coming through
Ben Clemens
11:13
It kinda feels that way to be honest

Maybe we need to publish WAR per minute.
Guest

He should go by Brandon Low-way, with the accent on the e at the end.
Ben Clemens

I think they're not as into their infinitely modular lineup deal as they were three or four years ago
But they can only play with what they have, as it were
Lzfreak
11:14
There have been times when Baez was legitimately at like a minute per pitch in previous years
Ben Clemens
11:14
I have to say, I didn't expect Joe Buck to be bringing up Arozarena's minor league numbers
Fodger "Dan" Szymborski

Going by WAR per minute, Greg Maddux looks even more like an all-time great

Barrel Hands is a very sabermetric friendly nickname
Ben Clemens
11:15
The best part of barrels is that it used to be used to mock Eno
and sabermetrics generally
LFC Mike
11:15
Good thing he isn’t named Brandon Depot .. that could get interesting
Ben Clemens
11:15
And now that people can see what a well-struck ball actually is, it turns out Hosmer wasn't much of a barrels hitter all along
AvatarDan Szymborski
11:15
He'd probably say it Brandon Dee-pot
Jim
11:15
That might have been the quickest Baez inning of all time
Derek
11:16
Or go with the Men in Blazers intro Rebecca Lowe pronunciation (loo-wah)

How many blues are the Rays allows
AvatarDan Szymborski
11:17
There's a House of Blues, so you can have a lot of blues

On my screen on Gameday, he took about five minutes to throw his first pitch, then threw like six in about four seconds. I have to admit, making such drastic changes in pace impresses me and seems like a possible advantage.
Ben Clemens
11:17
now that's quick pitching
Dodger Fan
11:17
I prefer WAR/nanosecond myself
Fodger "Dan" Szymborski

Dan, I think you've said in the past that you incorporate MLB postseason numbers into your projections. Do you do the same with minor league playoff statistics?
AvatarDan Szymborski
11:17
Yes
If the minor leaguers were a thing. :-(
Derek

A lot of blues, apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shades_of_blue

Dan,I suspect the helmets are left over from a little league team.
LFC Mike

How many rooms in a House of Blue.Full House of Blues starring a pair of insufferable twins.
Jim
11:19
There would be infinite shades of blue, technically, but I don't want to be shallow and pedantic
Derek
11:19
Joe Buck gets it
Fire Ken Tremendous
11:19
Joe Buck absolutely trolling the Boston faithful now
maranville
11:19
OK Joe Buck is good now
Ben Clemens
11:19
Aggressive trolling!
Joe Buck has been great this game
