For those saying the Dodgers would have no problem paying Turner and going over the luxury tax, they haven't gone over the soft cap since 2016.  It doesn't seem like something Friedman likes to do

In part, it depends on how conservative you want to be with the ace label. Is he one of the 5-10 best pitchers in baseball? Eh, I lean no. Next tier down? Absolutely.

ZiPS had Bauer as the #19 starter in WAR entering 2020.
And that was coming off a meh 2019.
I'd wager he's up to 12 or so.

I would be wary of giving Bauer a Strasburgian contract, but I also thought that Strasburg did not deserve a Strasburgian contract.
It's almost impossible to make an argument that Strasburg deserves it more than Bauer does, and he's coming off a dominant performance. Someone will pay him a lot just based on recency bias.

I *should* note that ZiPS had Strasburg as the #6 SP entering 2020. Fifth among pitchers who didn't miss 2020 with TJ surgery!

I wouldn't be surprised if Bauer was #6 going into 2021. With Strasburg and Sale and Syndergaard and and Severino Soroka missing the year and Flaherty underperforming, plus that great performance. I think there's a pretty solid case for him in the Top 10, at least.
