@Guest not necessarily. All courses typically have lectures and they can vary in size depending on the module and course

@Sayed - you can apply for any combination of courses and unis on your UCAS form, but you need to remember that admissions tutors will be reading your personal statement to try and find out if you are suitably interested in their course for them to give you an offer. If you are talking about 5 wildly different subjects in your personal statement, it will probably look like you're not really committed to any of them, which could reduce your chances of receiving an offer

For the course I am wanting to do, there is the option of an integrated masters. If I’m not sure whether I want to do that when I apply, can I choose to do a masters later on?
AvatarHaaroon
4:35
@Guest, yes you can choose to do masters later on. When you start your course you will be asked again in your 2nd year of studying whether you would like to do the integrated masters, it is at this point you would confirm whether you would or wouldn't do it

thank you

@Sanya - yep absolutely, graduate medicine courses are an option, but they can be a little difficult to fund as you wouldn't be eligible for student finance in the same way as you are with your first degree. I'd recommend doing a bit of research into graduate entry medicine courses and the funding available for them :)

If I am considering becoming a psychologist, do I apply for the medicine course first then a psychology course after completing the medicine one, or a psychology course then a medicine one after completing the psychology one?
AvatarHaaroon
4:43
@Noor if you want to become a psychologist then you need to do an accredited course which can be found here: https://www.bps.org.uk/public/become-psychologist/accredited-courses?t...
To become a psychiatrist you would need to do Medicine first

@Haaroon sorry I meant psychiatrist, thank you so much!

Hi, I'm really conflicted about doing either biomedical sc or medicine at Leeds, I feel like everytime I go with biomed and I'm happy, the idea of doing medicine constantly comes back. I know like right now I don't typically want to be a doctor, but I've wondered if you can still go into some kind of research through doing Medicine. I guess it's my fear of "but after doing biomed am I going to be lucky enough to get a stable secure job after graduating" - I honestly just don't know what to do or who to talk to about it all.
4:46
Like I understand my worry about having a stable career is very general and of course everyone has that fear

What is the optimum age to start university
AvatarHaaroon
4:48
@Ruqqaya, whenever you are ready and are able to start. There is no optimum age and we get applications from people of all ages

@Aneeka - this is a really tricky one! You can go into medical research from a medicine degree, but it's not a very common career path. A lot of your time on a medicine degree would be spent with patients and on ward placements, which from the sounds of it you're not really that keen on doing. I don't think that choosing a medicine degree solely because of the career prospects, and not because you actually want to do it, is a good decision. There is a much higher chance of dropping out of university for people who don't like the course they are studying, so if you know you wouldn't like it from the beginning, I'd recommend steering clear.

And I don't want to make the mistake of choosing biomed and then suddenly thinking okay I want to do medicine as its another long process to go through. Like I'm passionate about both and recently I've been finding that I'm slowly not minding the idea of being in wards etc. But its just so difficult

@Aneeka I think it sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into something that you don't really want to do - if you're not interested in a career as a doctor then medicine is probably not for you. It's also super competitive so there is no guarantee you would get a place to study it at uni. I would try and focus on what you actually enjoy, rather than what you think might get you a better job at the end - my degree was in English, and it was 100% the right decision, but if I'd thought about job prospects alone then I would likely have applied for chemistry and dropped out very early on because I knew deep down it wasn't for me.

I know I love the idea of doing biomed but I think its simply just the fear of after graduating - like I'd love to have a career in the vaccine industry especially in light of current circumstances but like i question how am I going to find these links to get me into the career path I aspire to be in
AvatarMolly
4:57
@Aneeka I know it can be hard to not worry about what will happen down the line, but honestly I would just take things one step at a time. You don't know what things will be like when you graduate or what opportunities will be offered to you along the way - I would make this decision based on your current feelings and try not to hyperfixate on all the different possibilities for the future. You just have to make the right choice for you

@ Molly thank you sm, it's given me some reasurrance from your experience which is great :)
