Hello everyone! Myself and the lovely Paula are here today to answer any questions you might have about the Access to Leeds Academic Assignment. If you need anything clarifying, or you’re a bit unsure about something, then this is the place to ask!

How would you suggest how to begin with the writing process?

Hello

Hi @Charlotte, thanks for your question. Can I ask what subject your assignment is?
Charlotte

History, specifically on the 1857 Indian Revolution

Hey @FR - I know those initials! How have your exams been?

I finished exam season last Friday and I’m planning to start my reading tomorrow. Exam season was brutal overall but I liked all the papers I took as everything I revised came up.
How have you been??

@FR must be a nice feeling! What reading have you got planned to start with?

Yeh I'm ok. How long do you think we should spend on the writing part of the assignment?
AvatarPaula

@Charlotte, thanks. I'd start by making sure you've read through any resources that you were provided with along with your assignment. Also, you should revisit the Study Skills resources about the process of writing an assignment - this should give you some ideas about an initial plan. Once you have a bit of a plan or outline, I'd suggest contacting your tutor - they really are the expert and the best person to advise.

I'm doing the dentistry assignment and started today. I arent sure what I'm being assessed on. Is it the ability to write an essay with some knowledge of the subject or do I need to have lots of details about fluoride as it is quite complex.

Hi @Matthew, thanks for your question!

No problemo

@Anon that's kind of a 'how long is a piece of string' question really! It's all about how you work best, so you need to make sure you're not rushing the writing, and that you've spent enough time on the research to be able to actually get pen to paper. It really is specific to you, so you'll know best how long the writing will take you.

Hi, I just wanted to ask when will we receive confirmation, after we have handed in our final assignment, that we have received our Access to Leeds offer? Thank you
AvatarMolly

Hey @Javeria, you'll get a confirmation in the week before results day by email!

So I’m planning to go to the health sciences library and just find all the books that relate to my topic and read through them for about a week just to have some basic knowledge.
The topic I got is something new to me so I need to understand the basics before I begin the writing process
AvatarMolly

@FR that sounds like a good plan - health sciences is pretty chill for reading in too!
AvatarPaula

@Matthew, you are really not expected to have any knowledge of dentistry topics, as we know that no one has studied it before. You are really being assessed on your ability to apply the skills from the Study Skills part of the module to writing an assignment and your use of research and sources, and demonstrate a use of referencing.  I wouldn't worry about anything too technical about the subject - do feel free to check with your tutor though about what level of detail they want - they will be happy to help!

Hey@guest. It can really depend on the individual tutor, as they all have different workloads and numbers of students. If you submit your assignment by the draft deadline, you should receive a response within a week in most cases, so that you can make any changes before you submit the final piece. If you can get a draft in well before the deadline, this will be better, and you'll get it back quicker, as the tutor will have more time to mark it.

Is it easy to pass?

What is the pass mark
FR

By the way, what was the % for a pass for the project??

I have applied to study psychology next year and I just recently came across this course called "psychology, philosophy and scientific thought" and the offer is a grade lower without A2L. Psych AAA, PPST is AAB. I was wondering if the A2L offer would still apply for the second degree if on results day I change my mind???? sidenote- Psychology is a Bsc whist PPST is a BA tho.

Hi @anon 2, thanks for your question!

Hey @OS @Matt and @FR - the assignment should be fairly easy to pass as long as you spend a bit of time on it and utilise your tutor. Just like at university, the pass rate is 40%, but you obviously want to do as well as you can so don't just aim for 40!

Thanks, I’ve never been to that particular library so I hope I find the books in a short time...

@FR the library staff are really helpful so if you do get stuck don't be scared to as them!

@anon 2 if you decided to change your mind on results day, there would need to be spaces available on the course through Clearing / Adjustment. If there are, the Access to Leeds offer would still apply, provided you pass the module.

for psychology, apparently we do not get a specific tutor so we email them and one of the 5 tutors replies. is this the case for all the other schools/faculties as well?
