No one. They're hoping that spot will be filled by a healthy Pablo Sandoval. And even if Sandoval doesn't bounce back, the rest of that lineup is so good that you don't have to worry too much about replacing Ortiz.

Ask me again once Cabrera actually starts to regress. He's still one of the best hitters in the game. Pujols is holding up pretty well for a 36 yr old but that's still a lot of $ they owe until he's 41.

Only 2 back so there's a decent chance, but there are some good teams ahead of them. O's will be tough to catch if they continue to get good starting pitching like they have as of late.

I'm amazed at how confident he looks out there. Ground ball machine. As I always say, I don't trust pitchers to stay healthy or be consistent from year to year, but it's safe to say that he's earned a rotation spot in 2017. I would've been happy if the Padres just stashed him in the bullpen all season and then got him back to starting in AA in 2017. One of many bright spots.

The Braves compiled a collection of young arms to much praise. But Coppy just stated that they're looking to add two arms this off-season. Is there really anyone in free agency that would be better than running the youngsters out again?

Not too many of those arms are big league ready and, as we've seen this season with those that did pitch in the majors, they're going to have ups and downs once they arrive. Sounds like they want to compete in 2017 and they currently don't have the pitching to do it. They should be able to add 2 reliable starters between free agency/trade markets.

He's great one start and awful the next. I don't see any team trusting him enough to give him 3 years. Maybe a 1-2 yr deal for no more than $8MM per season. And even that's a stretch for a guy with so much of an injury history. I think he could dominate as a late-inning reliever. But I think a few teams would still want to give him a chance to start.

If Sale is traded, I'd imagine that everyone with value has a chance to go. Eaton has 3 consecutive solid seasons under his belt and a team-friendly contract. Lots of value there.

If all he's getting are "prove it" deals, I'm sure the Rangers would have a good chance to bring him back. But if he continues to play well, especially into the playoffs, there should be plenty of interest.

It's going down to the wire but I'll take Verlander. He's having a heck of a season for a contending team. As always, you're having a great season but you haven't been pitching in meaningful games for a while.

With Folty missing at least 1 start and Williams Perez probably done for the season, I'm guessing we can see one of them starting on Saturday.

I'll go with the hot hand—Dozier. He has 8 HR in last 11 games. Trumbo has 1 in his last 14 games.

Which team did you grow up watching?

Jason Martinez

Padres fan since 1981. Maybe more serious about it in 1982. I was 6 years old. When I say "fan", that means I actually cared about the result of the game and was bummed if they lost. I even listened to the games on the radio and remember talk of this kid that they were bringing up from the Triple-A Hawaii affiliate. His name was Tony Gwynn.

can i get ur opinion on service clock; legit way of operating or was kris bryant screwed?

It's a tough argument from Bryant's side. It's rare for a player to reach the majors and be successful as quickly as Bryant so a few more weeks in the minors wasn't going to hurt him, especially since he was learning how to play the OF. There were also a few other logical arguments against Bryant being on the Opening Day roster. I think most players understand the situation and wouldn't make a big deal about it.

Always so many. Off the top of my head ... Dozier. Kyle Hendricks. Ryan Schimpf. Brad Miller. Drew Pomeranz.

Obviously Hedges hasn't had much time to prove himself in the bigs, but he really struggled in limited time in the bigs. Do you think his AAA production is just a product of the hitter friendly PCL?
