Greetings! I'll get underway in one minute, but feel free to bombard me with questions regarding Madison Bumgarner, the unfathomable decision not to throw Zach Britton in a winner-take-all game, various offseason scenarios or whatever other random thoughts may be on your mind.

Welcome back! How was vacation?
Steve Adams
3:04
Thanks! Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia... Victoria is awesome and somewhere I'd never have gone were it not for a few friends who live out in Seattle pushing it. I'd recommend it to anyone. Cool city, beautiful area.

What kind of moves should the white sox make this offseason
Steve Adams
3:05
Non-tender Avisail Garcia or dump him on someone else, move Melky to DH, look for a legitimate upgrade in the outfield (preferably one that can play center field competently), and finally find a real catcher. Would also like to see them add some rotation depth in the event that Shields tanks once again and they're left with Miguel Gonzalez and ... yuck ... at the end of the rotation.

Read Jeff's article this morning about Oakland needing to add speed and defense, as well as taking risks in the OF...Mallex Smith maybe? Dude is so fast
Steve Adams
3:06
Mallex is a burner, through and through, but they traded away a comparable player in Billy Burns. If they're going to add some speed/defense, I think the A's would probably prefer it to come with a bit more offensive upside. Besides, Atlanta seems to love Mallex so I doubt they're all that anxious to trade him.
3:07
For the record, I'd take Mallex over Burns -- just stating that they're generally comparable in terms of skill set

Will Rangers pick up Derek Hollands option?
Steve Adams
3:09
I think so, though there's a bit of a divide among the MLBTR staff on that (or at least there was when we last chatted on it). I just don't think any team with an option on a guy that has any semblance of a track record can afford to reject it. Holland's numbers are terrible, but if you subtract the one start where he served up 11 ER in 2 innings or whatever it was, he's got a 4.15 ERA on the year. The injury history is concerning, and the results of late haven't been great, but where else are you getting mid-rotation upside on a one-year, $11MM deal this winter? It's going to be really tough.
3:10
Holland, Jaime Garcia, Jason Hammel, even Clay Buchholz -- I'd pick them all up. Jon Niese might be the one reasonably priced option guy that I pass on.

Any chance Mets non tender Duda, move Bruce to first base, let Walker and De aza go, then have the money and space to keep Cespedes?
Steve Adams
3:11
I don't think they'll non-tender Duda after he came back late in the year. Even if he didn't, I expected them to tender him. Guy was a 130-135 OPS+/wRC+ guy in 2014-15, and paying somewhere in the $7-8MM range for that is a huge bargain. I don't see how they can keep Cespedes unless he goes for another early opt-out deal

Why arent the Phillies spending their TV money on bad contracts with 1 year left on their contracts (ie Francisco Liriano) and getting some prospects out of it? I get why they dont want to spend on multi-year deals in FA, but sitting on the money that wont go back into the organization while they "rebuild" is a travesty!
Steve Adams
3:13
Jays sent at least a wild card MLB-caliber arm back to Pittsburgh (Hutchison) in that Liriano dump ... Phillies didn't exactly have that to offer.
3:14
Generally speaking, though, I'd be firmly on board with the Phils using some of that payroll capacity to add some prospects to the farm. But it's not like they've done poorly in terms of accruing young talent.

Which of the following is the most likely CF candidate for St. Louis...Adam Eaton,Charlie Blackmon,Ender Inciarte,Dexter Fowler or AJ Pollack?
Steve Adams
3:15
Fowler simply because he's a free agent. I'll be stunned if the D-backs trade Pollock. Eaton was shifted to RF this season due to defensive questions. Can't envision an Inciarte deal. Blackmon, sure, it's possible, but the asking price would be pretty substantial

Any chance of Sale,Archer or Gray get trade?
Steve Adams
3:16
I'd say Gray then Archer then Sale in terms of likelihood -- just a gut instinct. I don't think any of the bunch are especially likely, but I'd put Gray as the most plausible of the bunch with Archer and Sale both landing firmly in the "I'd be stunned" territory.

If the Braves hire Bud Black, could you see them going after Andrew Cashner? He fell apart after Bud left
Steve Adams
3:17
Sure -- Coppy has said they're going to add two SPs, and Cashner has enough upside plus a connection to Black that there's reason enough to consider that a logical fit. A lot needs to happen to even begin to really speculate on that, though.

If Wieters leaves the O's, do you see them calling up Chance Sisco to be their catcher? Or do they go after a veteran catcher like bringing Nick Hundley back?
Steve Adams
3:19
It'd make sense to bring in a Suzuki/Hundley type of veteran on a one-year deal to keep the seat warm for Sisco rather than just going the baptism by fire route for him. They've done that in the past by toying around with guys like Everth Cabrera, Nolan Reimold, etc.

4/30 sounding about right Edwin.
Steve Adams

Like, $30MM total? I can't see Encarnacion signing for less than $80 million.

Hi, Steve what could the Rays get for Archer in the offseason?
Steve Adams
3:22
Not to be too hyperbolic, but pretty much whatever they want. He had a dominant second half and is on one of the the most team-friendly contracts in MLB while still firmly in his prime. And we're looking at the worst offseason for starting pitching maybe ever.

The Rays could reasonably ask for at least two MLB-ready players (a lesser starter and an outfielder, for instance) and another 2-3 useful prospects. Look at what the Rangers gave up for an older, much more expensive Cole Hamels -- Jerad Eickhoff, Jake Thompson, Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro and Alec Asher... the Rays would absolutely ask for more than that (and rightfully so).

Will EE resign with TOR or elect FA? I can envision interest from Boston, to be the succesor of Big Papi @ DH. Would that be a reaslistic possibility.
Steve Adams
3:23
I don't think the Jays will pony up with that type of money for a 1B/DH that's going to play next season at 34 and command at least a four-year deal on the open market.
The Twins
3:24
Please give me some hope?
Steve Adams
3:24
Look at Byron Buxton's September?
3:25
Really, though, they took an exec that played an integral part in composing and developing Cleveland's pitching staff and made him top dog in their baseball ops department. And that guy, Derek Falvey, is going to pick another young exec on the rise to work with him as GM. New blood, new philosophy -- plenty of reason to be hopeful I'd say.
Plus the farm is still good. Tyler Jay, Stephen Gonsalves, Nick Gordon, etc. -- still some enticing young pieces. And I love me some Jorge Polanco, who should get plenty of ABs next season.

I need to have at least one regular OF who is righty don't I? Grandy/Conforto/Bruce. Batting averages, yikes. Need Cespedes back, deal Bruce?
Steve Adams
3:27
They'll have Lagares back to platoon and help out in CF, and I don't think they're overly concerned with any hitters' batting average at this point. Granderson still gets on base and hits for power. Bruce is notoriously streaky but should play better in 2017 than he did for most of his time as a Met (even though I don't think he fits and I'd try to trade him or even consider just buying out the option -- that won't happen though).

3:28
Any chance Cargo and Blackmon both stay in Colorado in 2017?
Steve Adams
3:28
They both somehow stayed last season. If the Rockies feel like they can put CarGo or Parra at first base, sure, but there's no way they can deprive David Dahl of a regular role in 2017 after his rookie effort.
