I'm late! I'm late! For a very important da-- er, chat! Apologies! Will hang around for 10 or so extra.
Also, I'm going to rummage up a mouse quickly since it makes the chat easier. One second whilst I locate my laptop bag.
3:12
Mouse acquired! Let's roll.

3:12
Prediction for ALCS?
Steve Adams
3:14
I'm going Blue Jays in six, as their offense is too stacked to be outdone by a pitching staff that isn't at its best right now. So the Indians will probably sweep again.

3:14
What do you think of the Braves coaching moves?
Steve Adams
3:15
From everything that came out regarding Snitker late in the season and in the weeks since it's ended (lots of good stuff from the AJC, MLB.com and other places), it sounds like Snitker decisively won the respect of every player in that locker room. We follow tons of players on Twitter, and guys that have played for him in the minors -- Peter Moylan comes to mind as one example but there are others I'm blanking on -- have rushed to commend the move. He sounds respected, well-liked by younger and older players and clearly has a great rapport with the front office. Seems like a recipe for a good manager.
3:16
As for Washington, I don't love his in-game decisions as a manager but I think he brings tons of enthusiasm and knowledge to the staff. Seems like a strong add. Danny Valencia and a couple of other A's players are already lamenting the loss, but it's nice for Wash to be closer to his family in New Orleans.

Assuming all 5 of the Mets young arms (+ the immortal Bartolo Colon) are healthy in 2017.....did Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo pitch well enough to garner any trade interest to help the Mets fill a need in CF?
Steve Adams
3:17
Of course they did, but why would you assume that quintet will be healthy? They weren't in 2016 when they entered the year without major surgeries behind them, and now several have gone under the knife. If this season taught anything, it's that you should virtually never bank on a large contingent of pitchers remaining healthy. I firmly expect the Mets to keep both, and they'll probably need them at some point.

3:17
When do you expect the D-Backs to decide on a new GM?
Steve Adams
3:18
They want to get a new GM and give that new GM time to pick a new manager -- lots of work to do before the World Series ends and the offseason picks up in earnest. I'd expect they want a new GM within the next two weeks and a new manager not terribly long after that.

3:19
Does the D-Backs GM job seem like something nobody wants? Seems like too many meddling hands
Steve Adams
3:20
Some people will be put off by all of the turnover and by the fact that Kendrick and Hall have reportedly intervened in some moves, but there are 30 jobs in the world that allow someone to run a baseball ops department, the D-backs signed a $1.5 billion TV deal not long ago, and the person will inherit a core of Goldschmidt, Pollock, Lamb, Greinke (2016 struggles notwithstanding) and lots of other intriguing arms like Ray, Corbin, Shipley... it's plenty desirable.

Do the Phils extend Hellickson the QO or pull a surprise and offer him a 3 or 4 year deal?
Steve Adams
3:21
Those two aren't mutually exclusive. They'll offer him the QO, and they can try to sign him for four years even after he rejects it if they want. I don't think that'll happen. I do think he'll get four years, just not in Philadelphia.

3:21
Edwin Encarnacion makes a ton of sense for an Astros team with a lot of money to spend, right?
Steve Adams
3:21
If they're comfortable paying Hanley Ramirez-ish money, sure. Four years, $88MM ... maybe a bit more, from where I sit.

3:22
The two big free-agent closers blew up on the same day in the playoffs and couldn't complete an inning. Think either one ends up back on their current team?
Steve Adams
3:22
They're human. No one's signing them to be perfect all season. I could see either landing back with their current club, but I think Jansen's chances are better. More entrenched in that organization. Plus I do think the Yankees will make a big run at re-signing Chapman.
3:23
Phone -- one second. Sorry.
3:24
Ok!
Ed-C
3:24
Way to go Steve - I think The Yankees will sign Chapman too!
Steve Adams
3:24
Hey I didn't say they WOULD. I just said they'll make a push. Giants, Nats and a few others probably will too. Dodgers included.
Braves Fan
3:25
Braves signing two FA pitchers. Colon and Peavy sound realistic?
Steve Adams
3:26
They want higher upside than that in the two pitchers they add. And it should be stressed that Coppolella didn't say he wants to sign two free agent starters. He said he wants to add two SPs. Could be trade or free agency, and I'd expect one of each. Peavy or Bud Norris or someone on a marginal one-year deal makes sense, but I think they'll aim higher -- Ervin Santana? Solely speculating -- when looking for trade targets.
David Ortiz
3:27
Am I done for good? Or I come back mid season for Sox nation for some unfinished business
Steve Adams
3:27
I think he meant what he said and is retiring.

3:27
As a journalist, is it more fun to cover the July trade deadline or the winter meetings?
Steve Adams
3:28
Have to imagine nearly anyone would say Winter Meetings. They're fun to attend -- I enjoyed them quite a bit in 2014 and will hopefully be there again this season -- and the deadline is chaos. Trying to write up all kinds of stories on trades and possible scenarios while also doing typical beat coverage is probably a nightmare for beat writers. So many deadlines to meet.
Barry Bonds
3:28
Does Cam Bedrosian for Brendan Rogers make sesnse?
Steve Adams
3:29
A reliever coming off arm surgery for one of the top overall positional prospects in baseball does not, no. Angels would do it though!
(Obviously)
Rays Fan
3:29
With the passing of Jose Fernandez. The Marlins need an ace pitcher, the Rays need a catcher. Would Chris Archer for J.T. Realmuto be feasible?
Steve Adams
3:30
You're a Rays fan and you're proposing that? Archer is controlled longer than Realmuto and is better -- though I'm a big Realmuto fan. That's not enough to get Archer back, and I say that as someone who thinks Realmuto doesn't get near the attention he deserves.
Tim Tebow
3:31
Will I make it to the show?
Steve Adams
3:31
Like, the video game? I'm sure they'll put him in there, yeah.

If you mean the Majors, then almost certainly not.

If this is actually Tim Tebow and you're on a train or something and hoping to make it to Broadway in time to see Kinky Boots, then I don't know what to tell you man.
3:32
The third of those scenarios is totally the most likely, right?
yousmelllikebiscuits
3:32
What do the Nats do at catcher and what will Melancon cost in Free Agency?
Steve Adams
3:34
I've got Melancon at four years and $10-12MM per season -- more or less David Robertson money. He's not talked about as much as Chapman or Jansen, who will get more (a lot more), but he's going to be paid handsomely.

I have no idea what the Nats will do at catcher right now because I've yet to see much of an informative update on Wilson Ramos' prognosis ... I'm curious to see how long he's expected to be out and what type of recovery the doctors are envisioning for a massive catcher going through the second tear of the same ACL.
