I turned down free tickets to Nats-Dodgers Game 5 to be here with you, so feed me your best questions.
2:07
Will let folks roll in and then we'll get going.

Which team do you expect to be the biggest spender in the free agent market?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
Never bet against the Yankees!
Though I don't know that any one org will go wild.
Phillies

What are the realistic plans that we do this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
Writing up their offseason outlook right now, so you'll have to stay tuned. I'd expect one reasonably significant position player signing and a few moves to add arms. Would expect them to take a few risks.

Source: Qualifying offer this off-season will be $17.2M. System expected to remain in place in new CBA, with possible adjustments.
So that's a bit higher than had been reported before.

Do the Giants go Gillaspie at 3rd and Nunez in LF, or do they find a better outfielder?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
No I don't think they are going to suddenly view CG as a regular. He'll be on the team, of course.

No way you can turn down those tickets..... Best SP available via trade this off season and who is most likely to move?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Decided I'd wait to make the effort of Nats make it into NLCS. Also I wasn't good luck the last Game 5.
2:13
I think Sale is the best arm that's reasonably available, but no certainty to move. Sale, Quintana, Archer probably the best in play.

Michael Saunders: Qualifying Offer? If he gets one, do you think he'd accept, decline, or try to pull a Marco Estrada (re-sign on a lower AAV multi-year deal?)
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
No for me, but I know others on our staff say they would. I guess I have a hard time seeing him going onto the market rather than taking it, but it's all in a grey area.

Most likely destinations for Cespedes?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Don't think there's a single team that stands out, though I would say Nats, Giants, and Mets appear reasonably good bets to pursue him. He is good enough that a team could add him and make another move to clear the way.
Brandon
2:15
If you had to bet on who the closer for the Giants will be next year, who are you putting your money on?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
I wouldn't bet on it, but Melancon seems like their kind of dude. That only goes to show the competition we'll see for the best relievers in FA this year. I expect prices to be very high at the top.

2:16
If Mets pick up Bruce's option, does he have any significant trade value?
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Not much.
2:17
Probably not enough to exercise and trade, though they'd probably have someone lined up or at least have a plan for what they'd do if not enough interest materialized.
There's probably some value there, just not a lot. You could probably argue same for Jaime Garcia, Derek Holland, etc.

If it's your call, what's the best way to plug the gaping hole in Oakland's Center Field opening? What's the most likely...?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Opportunism. Not locking into a single option. That could mean valuing, say, Carlos Gomez and pushing hard for him with a good but not great offer (three years and into the thirties with an opt out?). Or waiting to see who comes available via trade or for less money.

What do you think of the possibility of just moving Braun to first base and go with a hole in the Outfield out there
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
8-man lineup? Interesting.
But seriously, I think he'll be traded. If not, no, I think they should keep him playing in the OF. His trade value (or value to the team if they go on a run) is more important than pushing Chris Carter off of first to open a new need elsewhere.

Of the teams currently in a rebuilding phase, which do you see contending soonest?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
I like where the Brewers have put themselves, though not sure they are necessarily first in line. Phillies have most capacity to spend.

Hiya Jeff! love the chats, How do you think the Yanks handle their SP situation going into next year? Trade? FA? In-House?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
Thank you, sir. Probably a top suitor for Rich Hill. They can afford to take the risk. And will explore the trade route, too.
Stubby

What do you think of the Sheriff of Nottingham becoming the catcher that the Brewers are hoping he will be
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
Last I saw -- like, yesterday -- was another iffy report. Seems like it's still a work in progress behind the dish.
Dan
2:25
If the Nationals lose, do you see them shopping Jayson Werth?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
Win or lose, I see him being viewed as a pretty important piece of the team. I guess in theory they could try to get out from under a bit of the remaining salary, but I've always sensed he's pretty much locked in for the duration.
Steve Pearce

1/10 with a vesting option look about right for me this winter?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
I think that's steep. The injury history continues to grow, and he wasn't the same with the O's. Maybe he could find some upside with some PA incentives.

What are the odds the Rockies would trade tom murphy to someone like the braves for a couple of good relievers? They love relievers.
