Thanks for joining. Ask away. I'll let folks filter in and we'll get going shortly.

how much more will it take for the Mariners on top of Gohara to get Cozart? My thought is not much.
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
As always, specific names are tough b/c we don't know individual teams' valuations. But I think that's directionally correct. One year of Cozart probably won't bring back a major prospect. But he should return a pretty nice piece who will be expected to contribute in the majors.

what would mccutchen cost the mets?
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
I just don't see much of a match there, personally. And if it's true that the Pirates are seeking fairly premium prospects -- as was reported w/r/t talks with the Nats over the summer -- then he isn't going anywhere. Teams will be looking to buy low-ish.

What do you think of the R.A. Dickey signing?
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
Solid price. If he can throw 200 innings with like a 4.20 ERA, they'll be happy. Obviously nice to have a veteran in that super-young rotation.
Kudos to Tim for nailing that prediction, btw.

Would Brian Cashman be better off with attempting to get from under McCanns contract with a salary dump or eating some and getting some prospects?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
Not sure that matters too much -- just a question of valuing the prospects and deciding whether you want to buy them. For that org, shouldn't really impact the major league roster either way.
2:09
What's interesting to me is: if you're going to move McCann and then buy up someone nearly as expensive, why bother? Say, Kendrys Morales. I'd rather keep McCann and have the security at catcher. So from NY's perspective, there probably needs to be something to sweeten this beyond getting out from under his salary.

Wouldn't it be smart to trade for a guy like Kendrick and wait out a weak free agent class when more money clears up after this season?
Jeffrey Todd

Jeff Fletcher has said they seem to be prioritizing defense at the position. Not sure where that would lead them, but probably not Howie.
Otherwise, yeah, limited-term commitments to solid veterans still seem to make sense.

Hey Jeff. If the Ranger were to trade either Mazara or Odor is a Sale deal who do you think they would include? And is this likely? Thanks.
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Odor seems much more likely to be extended -- they seem very high on him, and rightfully so. Guess Mazara could be moved, and might need to be to get Sale, but I just don't know if they'll part with that much of their youth in the OF after all the other major recent trades that did so.

What's going on with the Angels 2b situation? Jeff Fletcher suggested pursuing a trade for Cesar Hernandez. Would that be a good fit and what would it take to make that happen?
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
Right, forgot he had mentioned Cesar. But Phils will want value after his strong year and given his cheap control ... where is LAA dealing from?

How many relievers do you see the Giants signing to major-league contracts this offseason?

Out of town, sorry. And yes, hats off to the Cubbies.

What do you think about the Astros trading for Ryan Braun? GM's have relationship and if Astros take most/all the money wouldn't require huge prospect haul.
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
That could make some sense, but I still feel like they are better suited to pursue a CF or a pure 1B slugger type.
Also Luhnow has said he doesn't really want to ship out prospects, so FA seems more likely.

do you see otani getting 300 million?

Can't wait to find out. If he repeats his 2016, who knows?

Would a team like the Astros realistically give up multiple top prospects for Miguel Cabrera? It seems more likely to me that the Tigers would basically let any team willing to pick up a majority of the $ have him.
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
I don't understand that rumor at all, honestly. Would Houston pay him that much in FA right now? I don't think so.

Did the Cubs really not pick up Hammel's option for his good, rather than business, reasons?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Well, there's an underlying business motive. The Nats didn't make Edwin Jackson a QO when they could/should have. The Giants didn't pick up Aoki's option and trade him last year. Etc.
2:18
But mostly, yeah. Not like they'd have made out like bandits had they picked up the option and traded him. They probably would have if that was the case, though if he had been THAT good then he'd probably still be in the rotation plans next year.

Anything more than baseless speculation in ESPN's blurb about the Cardinals being interested in Trout?
Jeffrey Todd

Haven't seen that, but that's silly.
Don't know why I feel the need to take a Trout question every chat. It's compulsive.

What was your reaction to the Carlos Ruiz trade?
Jeffrey Todd

Solid fit for M's. They'd have paid about as much for someone else in FA.

Can the White Sox get Moncada, Bradley and Kopech for Sale?
