Howdy. I'll let folks file in and finish up the post on that hot Adam Walker-to-Braves move, and we'll get rolling.

White Sox ... any more moves this winter?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
I still think it likely makes sense to move Quintana this winter. Suppose they will end up waiting on Frazier, just since there isn't demand now but could well be at the deadline, but any kind of spring injury or change of heart from other orgs could lead to a move there too.

Can Tim Lincecum revive his career. If so, where
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
No real reason to think so, though Rich Hill teaches us that all things are possible.

Do the Rays have a legitimate shot at signing Mike Napoli?
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
If they are willing to reallocate all of Forsythe's salary and some more, perhaps they'll be competitive. But I have no idea what kind of cash the Rangers are dangling on a one-year arrangement. Would the Rays go to 2 years at a somewhat lower AAV? I don't know. They did give Loney 3.
RONIN

Any chance Angels sign Sergio Romo?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
Sure. I believe they still have some space under the luxury line and they have obviously been adding pieces for 2017. Like others, though, they are probably waiting and hoping some of these guys settle for relatively cheap, one-year deals.
Alex

I wouldn't classify that move as hot
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
That was sorta the joke.

Holland going to the Rockies: Poor decision on his part or a reflection of the fact that teams no longer evaluate pitchers based on ERA?
Jeffrey Todd
2:10
I'll agree with Dave Cameron's assessment (the latter). I think the two wild cards with Colorado are the mental aspect (you're going to give up more hits/runs) and the question whether pitching at altitude has negative health implications.
But if that was the best opportunity, then I think it's fine these days to pitch there and trust that teams will evaluate based on what's coming out of the hand more than how many runs cross the plate.

Adam Walker get some AB's for the Braves this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
He's a marginal OF, it seems, is blocked at first by Freeman, and there's no DH. Guess he'd be a surprise as a bench guy out of the gates, but obviously there are plenty of ways he could end up seeing time. Also possible he loses his roster spot soon as something better crosses the wire.

Any shot the Phillies become buyers mid-season? They have a full 40 man roster and most of their top prospects are in the high minors.
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Anything is possible. But no, not really. Too many things have to break right to make that a reasonable expectation.

I can't be the only one who thinks the Jays resigning of Bautista was a huge mistake. Too much $$$ and not getting compensation pick
Jeffrey Todd
2:13
They had a need and the guy can still hit. Plus, he'll put butts in the seats. If the plate discipline had eroded, it would be different, but if he keeps his mastery of the zone and even just maintains his 2016 power (let alone returns to his prior numbers), he's kind of a bargain.

2:14
Hey Jeff. In light of the untimely deaths of players such as Oscar Taveras, Jose Fernandez, and Yordany Ventura, do you think MLB will ever consider compensation picks for teams that suffer these sorts of losses?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
I don't really see a workable way of doing that. These losses were terrible for the departed and their loved ones, first and foremost, but obviously also represents a big loss to the organizations both on and off the field. I just don't know how you'd quite justify and implement something like that.

Could Matt Belisle be a bargain pick up for a team looking for a bullpen arm? * cough * Blue Jays * cough *
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
He did have a nice year. No reason to expect him to be some kind of lights out setup guy, but he ought to be given a roster spot and more or less guaranteed a MLB job.

Jays in on Boone Logan?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
Certainly makes sense. Would think if they do commit any kind of significant bucks it'd be for him or Blevins.

Could the Angels pull off a trade involving Carlos Perez and CJ Cron for the Rays Odorizzi?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
That's way light. Cron doesn't have that much value -- if he did, they wouldn't be sort of putting out word that he can be had.
Odd Year Giants
2:19
A couple of nice low radar signings for the Giants this week. What about left field?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
All indications are it's an internal competition. Guess I wouldn't sleep on a move, but it doesn't seem likely.

What realistic starting pitching options are available for the Royals via FA or by trade?
daro
2:20
so i think Jason Hammel fits nicely in KC :S
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Seems to make sense to me. RIP Yordano : (
Mike Conforto
2:20
My team just stated that they were going with Jay Bruce in RF. Where does that leave me? Any chance I get moved?
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Man, I just don't know. If they really have committed to Bruce sticking (let's wait and see), then it's either a bench role for Conforto (at least unless/until one or both of those players forces a change) or he's back at Triple-A. Neither situation seems great for him.

Is Odubel Herrera the best bat-flipper in baseball and also the best Rule 5 draft pick ever? It's okay to answer no, but you're taking a risk.
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
You might want to look into the latest KBO-to-MLB name: Hwang. (Though disappointingly it sounds like he'll be easing up on the flips.)

Why have prices for closers soared and power hitters dropped
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
In large part, the closer market is catching up to the fact that we haven't seen this caliber of reliever on the open market since Papelbon.
Power hitters may be in part a reflection of a completion of a shift in FO thinking on value (not just dingers) and also the unique glut in this year's market.
