Astros are big on Stassi, and with good reason. Too many K's, but elite defense behind the dish and a .258/.341/.477 slash so far in '18. Average (and thus OBP) will regress since it's being propped up by some luck on balls in play, but if he's something like .230/.320/.450 with defense and power, that's a plenty fine asset
Sure Realmuto would be an improvement, but the cost to acquire him would be staggering.

Am I even going to trade mike fulmer or Matt Boyd?
Steve Adams
3:59
I don't think either's stock is at a high point right now. Fulmer's control is down, and he's giving up tons of hard contact. Boyd's been giving up loads of loud contact recently as well. Both are controlled well beyond the 2018 season, and I don't think either would lose much value if the Tigers waited until this offseason, next summer, or even next offseason to move them. Plus, with so many high-end arms coming up through the ranks, they may want to hold off on moving either to see if they can't put together a solid rotation sooner than expected
Mize, Faedo, Burrows, Perez, etc. -- they have a lot of good arms all of a sudden

Looks like 3 teams can use C upgrade - Stros, Sawx, and Brewers.  Mesoraco a fit for any of them?
Steve Adams
4:00
I don't think Mesoraco is an upgrade over Stassi. Red Sox or Brewers would make some sense, sure. Nationals as well, though we don't see the Nats and Mets deal together too often. (Has happened, though)
TWINS33
4:00
If the Indians continue to play average ball and the Twins put together a good August against a week schedule, do the Twins become buyers instead of sellers? Or have they already made up their mind and are in full sell mode?
Steve Adams
4:01
It's still likelier that they sell, but winning 5 straight while the Indians have dropped three in a row might at least have caused the front office to pump the brakes. There's still 3 weeks until the deadline, and we see teams in similar spots to Minnesota take that vast majority of July to determine their course every year.

Likelihood Marlins trade Dietrich?
Steve Adams
4:02
I expect him to be traded.
Angelos

Do I keep Duqutte and Showalter for rebuild
Steve Adams
4:02
I think this is Duq's last year there. Showalter I could see staying, either as a manager or moving to some kind of advisor role a la Terry Collins

Iglesias for Tucker or Whitley plus.  Who says no?
Steve Adams
4:03
Don't think Astros would move either for Iglesias.

4:04
Do the Phillies trade for Machado or wait till the off-season and not give up the farm.
Steve Adams
4:04
Offseason seems likelier for a real pursuit

What is wrong with Archer?
Steve Adams
4:05
He had like a 2.90 ERA and strong K/BB numbers in his final 10 starts up to getting hurt, and he looked rusty last night while pitching on a pitch limit. I don't think anything is wrong with him. He had 4-5 bad starts to open the season.

How likely are the Angels to trade Garrett Richards this summer and if so what kind of return do you envision?
Steve Adams
4:07
Looking likelier and likelier. They're in that same spot I referenced earlier with the Twins; if they snap off 9 wins in their next 10 games or something maybe they'll push for a Wild Card spot after all, but right now I'd lean toward him being traded. There's no real way to put "odds" or "percentages" on these things with any kind of accuracy, so I try to avoid doing so. I'm leaning slightly in favor of a trade, so if you wanna call that 60-40 or something, I guess that works.

Is Mad-Bum a Giant in 20 days?
Steve Adams
4:09
Of course he is. The Giants have been adamant about their desire to contend and to add pieces. They acted as buyers all offseason even if it looked like they should've sold, and they're only 3 games out of the division and 4 out of the Wild Card. I don't understand how some reporters are even trying to call him a fit for the Yankees or anyone else. He's staying a Giant.

4:10
why dont the dbacks go after Escobar instead of Machado? way cheaper option
Steve Adams
4:11
Machado's a better hitter and a premium defender at third (where he could play against LHPs since Lamb can't hit them).

But, yeah, if Machado goes elsewhere, Eduardo would be a real nice consolation prize -- again, assuming the Twins sell

Hey Steve, kind of confused, How do the Dodgers land Machado or any other high priced player without going over their tax? hasn't it been reported that theyre not adding to their payroll
Steve Adams
4:12
If the Orioles (or any trade partner) kick in some cash, or if the Dodgers ship a contract to the other club in the deal, they'll be fine. They're $15-16MM under the barrier at present.
That Girl
4:12
Dick Williams said the Reds are intending to increase their payroll.  The Reds have always screamed “we don’t have any money to spend!”.  Do you really think the front office will authorize this?
Steve Adams
4:14
It's up to Bob Castellini, not Dick Williams. I didn't see the comments in question, but if Williams said, on record, that he intends to increase payroll, then there's no reason not to believe him. He wouldn't make those comments without ownership giving the OK, and it'd look terrible from a PR standpoint to make that promise and then not follow through.

Any team interested in Jose Martinez's bat? Specifically in the AL so he could DH?
Steve Adams
4:14
Ken Rosenthal and Mark Saxon have said the Twins like his bat.

Mauer (What You Know/TI) and Longoria (Down & Out/Tantric)

If the A's acquire an arm for the stretch run would you expect it to be a rental or someone with more team control?
Steve Adams
4:17
They're not in a great position to give up too much for a rental right now -- so it'd either be a rental who doesn't cost that much in return (Lance Lynn? Shrug) or someone who's controlled beyond the 2018 season. Latter seems likelier to me.
Zach Wheeler
4:17
Will I be traded?
Steve Adams
4:17
Likelier to go than deGrom or Syndergaard, I think.
Cubbies
4:18
Who’s more likely to solidify themselves with a deal by the deadline, the Cubs or Brewers?
Steve Adams
4:19
I don't think that's an either-or question. They'll both upgrade before July 31 and probably both add pieces in August as well. Brewers seem likelier to make a bigger-name move, though.
Neal Huntington
4:19
How about I trade off the guys I need to trade (Dickerson, Nova, Cervelli, Harrison?) Then turn some of those prospects around and buy low on Archer?
