Givens is interesting because his arm slot is 1/2 but his hand slot is more over the top.

Yeah, if you begin to entertain the full compliment of relievers, you probably run into much stranger mechanics.

how many of these rookies do the reds intend to keep? Is this just an extended audition?
Carson Cistulli
6:05
Probably the first question will be answered by the second. If all the rookies end up as MVP candidates, the club will likely retain them all.

What about judging arm slot by a clock?
Carson Cistulli
6:06
Would you flip the clock around for a left-hander? Or leave it the same? So maybe Justin Verlander throws from 2:00, Kershaw from 10:00?

Kershaw's only hit allowed was when they brought the infield in

Arm slot question: Who had the most over-the-top arm slot? Josh Collmenter is pretty extreme. Any one know of a pitcher more over the top than him?
Carson Cistulli

That's done by adjusting release point for height. No info from hand slot or spine tilt. And it's in order.

This was run in 2015 so there might be a new guy that I saw in the AFL that will be nuttier, but that looks pretty over the top from Guilmet.

Good news: it was up from his spring numbers ... unless the tracking was off

How early in a career does a pitcher get set into an arm slot? It seems like it would be v hard to change
Jordan

I think it would be cool if fangraphs had a chat that's just Travis/Dave/Eno & Jeff chatting about baseball, no interaction from us, you guys basically have a chat amongst yourselves in a fish bowl

I'd really like to do pieces like this. Carson and I did one. I reached out to Jeff about some piece this year, maybe we will.

Lead prospect analyst Eric Longenhagen has occasionally commented on pitchers who've changed their slots/mechanics. I think clubs generally try to avoid it, because arms, like Belle and Sebastian, are fragile and precious.

Craig Breslow changed his arm slot this offseason. Talk about it on the Ringer pod.
Eno Sarris
6:16
yeah this is how it mostly happens: at the end of a career, to save it.
