if he can play 140 games, that means he's healthy. If he's healthy, let's say 110 wRC+
Bernie

Can we start referring to "Cistulli" not as a person but as a state of being? Like when Kluber versus Darvish is on but you're excited about Yandy Diaz, you were a Cistulli or Cistullian.
Paul Sporer
7:10
Yes. 1000% yes.

If Darvish is healthy, is he better than Kluber?
Craig Edwards
7:12
I take Kluber. He's had three straight 5+ WAR seasons and even when healthy, Darvish hasn't gotten there.
Not that Darvish isn't very good. If he's healthy, he is getting paid in 7 months.

maybe a flash problem, miky?

7:13
Yu Darvish is my Cy pick. Very nervous

Eric Nadel is no slouch behind the mike either. I believe Fangraphs ranked him #1 last year.
Paul Sporer
7:13
Nadel is a beast for sure, totally agree.

7:13
Can someone make a weighted catch rate stat using the statcast data so we can systematically compare (i'm bad at math but whoever wants to can plagiarize the idea)
Craig Edwards
7:14
it will be difficult to weight things with 100 as average, at least for the time being because opportunities are so different, but I'm sure the top minds are working on it.
Compton
7:14
@Sporer -- I saw your name on the invite to Rosenheck's 20-teamer. Why didn't you play that one?
Paul Sporer
7:14
Just wasn't interested this year
Bernie
7:16
Lindor vs. Darvish might be the best hitter-pitcher matchup of the day
Craig Edwards
7:16
Lindor's great, but a lot of that is from defense. He's probably the 3rd best hitter on the team.
bosoxforlife
7:17
The Phillies are playing with fire using Gomez as their "closer"?
Craig Edwards
7:18
He's not their best reliever, probably not close, but probably not a big deal for the team. if he gets too bad, they can just replace him.
Matt
7:18
The game doesn't really warrant any attention, but I was surprised to see Hellickson as the Phillies opening day starter. Why?
Paul Sporer
7:18
They could be looking at sabermetrically and preferring to have Neris/Benoit available in the real hot spots in 6th-8th while giving Gomez the more favorable bases clear, 3-run lead setups
Moltar
7:19
Hey Sporer, loving your ESPN daily notes column
Craig Edwards
7:19
He is their highest paid player, right?
Paul Sporer
7:19
Thanks so much!
Compton
7:20
How many 55+ pitches does Darvish have?
Mr. Jones
7:21
Darvish slider on point so far.
Craig Edwards
7:21
The slider is great. Hard to say how good the rest of his pitches are independent of it. It's probably more of a scouting question than a stat question.
Toasty
7:22
darn blackouts, because I was totally gonna drive five hours to Arlington today
Craig Edwards
7:22
MLB blackouts have nothing to do with attending games. It's about buying a cable subscription.
not that the blackout policy is good.

7:22
Always have to jump in and listen to some Paul talk
Paul Sporer
7:23
What's goin on, strype? Enjoying Opening Day?
MCL
7:23
I think someone mentioned in a chat earlier this week that they are likely doing it to keep Hector Neris from getting closer stats and thereby deserving closer money
Craig Edwards
7:23
that's certainly a possibility.
Art Vandelay
7:24
it could also be they don't want Neris getting saves for two years before he hits arbitration though, right?
Craig Edwards
7:25
although you have to counter potential trade value as closers could theoretically fetch more in trade.
Jay
7:25
Craig, your thoughts on the Piscotty extension?
Josh Alley
7:26
Yeah, it's based on whether or not you could watch the game on a local station with a cable subscription
Paul Sporer
7:27
The annoying part is I can't even watch Astros games in Austin with my Google Fiber subscription
anicolausk
7:27
Who else is going to be watching Keuchel and the Stros tonight?
