Jin Young, our programs use "super-scoring," so they'll take the highest score of each section regardless of which test it's on, as long as all of the scores are valid.
Jin Young Kim
12:25
That means on the application I can also put the highest score for sections?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
12:25
Yes, you can, as long as you make sure to send us the official scores for those exams as well.
Jin Young Kim
12:28
OK sounds good. So, I sent only one test score last night. Can I just resend it to the institution with all the scores?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
12:28
Yes, that should be fine.
Jin Young Kim
12:28
On the application, I just add another GRE test to identify all the scores? Or Can I just them in one section?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
12:28
No, on the application you can put in all of the high scores for each section. You order the scores from ETS separately.
Jin Young Kim
12:32
I just want to clarify this more clearly, so on the application, I will have just one GRE Test 1 section that includes my highest section scores from different dates right?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
12:33
Yes, that will be fine. For the date, include your most recent test date. But then as I mentioned, you must make sure to send ALL of the official test scores for the tests that you have used on your application.
Jin Young Kim
12:33
Then, for the date, which date should I put for that section?
12:35
Ok that sounds great! Thank you so much for your time and support.

What option should I choose in Have you requested official scores be sent to penn?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
12:46
Hi Guest, sorry, we had a momentary disconnect. Well, if you have sent the official scores, then you should select yes. If you haven't, you should select no.

Hi, I have a question regarding the recommendation letter.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
1:14
Yes, what is your question, Jin Young?
Jin Young Kim
1:15
I just submitted the application, and I am still waiting for my third recommendation letter. Would it be okay if the recommendation letter is completed by today?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
1:16
Yes, that is fine. As long as we have the two letters, including one from an academic source, in by the deadline, it will be ok.
Jin Young Kim
1:18
I requested three recommendation letters, and the last one has not been completed yet. So, as long as the third one is completed by today. Would the third recommendation letter be considered for reviewing my application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
1:19
Jin Young, if it comes in after today's deadline, then it is up to the dept if they want to include it in your application review.
Jin Young Kim
1:23
But, as long as it is completed by today 11:59 PM EST, it will be reviewed as well right?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
1:23
Yes, then it will be included in the review.
Jin Young Kim
1:27
Thank you so much for the help!

Hi! I am applying for MSE and I have a question: Do you have experience about student deferring offer for master programs? What situation could it be?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
2:43
Yes, Karl. If you are accepted and apply to defer, the decision is made by the program, and they generally ask for the specific reason as to why you are deferring, and then make a decision based on your request. You are able to request a deferral for a year, and able to renew it for one more for a total of two. This is again at the approval of the program.

Thanks a lot for your answer! Another question: I didn't use the CertFile (optional) service when applying, does it affect a lot for my application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
2:46
No, not at all. That's why it's optional.
Karl
2:49
Got it! Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your help!

Hello Will. During the application, there is a list for us to fulfill employment. I wonder whether we count research and internship as employment, or we just list them in our resume?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
3:35
No, internships should only be included as employment if you were paid for them. If you were unpaid or if you received academic credit, it does not count as employment. Research is the same thing - it's not employment if you're not paid to do it. Part-time research, for example during the school year, should be converted to full time (e.g., 15 hrs/week for 8 months = 3 months). Labs associated with a course, such as an organic chemistry course lab, should be excluded.
3:57
Folks, we are nearly done - please send in your final questions, as I'm signing off at 4PM.
