I think the answer is that there's a lot of folks watching a player for the first time for whom the PAs they have eyes on him mean more than the stats for the season. So naturally they base their takes on what they see in front of them.

This is postseason baseball in a nutshell

10:38
Correa even throws harder in the postseason, apparently

THEY MENTIONED SÁNCHEZ'S NO HITTER THERE GOES TONIGHT'S NO HIT BID
AvatarDan Szymborski

Just seems kind of a waste to use one of your starters to get Martin Maldonado out on 8 pitches with a three-run lead in the 6th.
And I'd still rather have Corbin pitching 2 starts in the Series than Sanchez.
Carl S

With only one IP, why couldn’t Corbin go in Game 3. Isn’t this like a throw day?
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:41
This isn't QUITE a throw day. Different stakes; there's a reason that they don't do this alls eason
AvatarJay Jaffe
10:42
it's a high-stress inning. There's really not much downside to putting him off to Game 4 instead of 3
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:42
Eh, the LI was right around 1
AvatarJay Jaffe
10:43
I didn't say it was high leverage. Starts off facing two excellent hitters, get a man on base, deep counts. Didn't make it look easy.

This whole only use 6 or 7 different pitchers thing all postseason is wild, I'm honestly surprised it's held up as well as it has
Nats bandwagon
10:44
You have the 5-2 lead, you play to win this game.
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:44
Disagree with you guys here, but that's cool
10:45
it's game one of a possible seven.
We
we're talking elimination or a 2-2 series, I think the calculus is different
But we're arguign over small percentages one way or the other!

"Siri, who's leading baseball in quadrangles this postseason?"

It's interesting the different blends of white people you get at baseball games

so does it look like the World Series ball is regular season ball or postseason ball?
AvatarDan Szymborski

Think it's premature

One good thing about the East Coast: late games = late night dog snuggles. Hard to complain with that.

Are you guys coming out every night? Baseball without chats is not the same
AvatarDan Szymborski

the cast will change
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:49
Yeah, you'd get tired of me after consecutive games. Consecutive innings, I'm barely interesting.

Actually, this set of baseballs came from 1776; they were hidden behind the Constitution

Cuadrangular is one of the words for home run in Spanish, though it's less popular than jonrón

So, when MLB stops juicing the baseball and a bunch of dudes stop hitting 30+ homers, will it mess with the economic side of baseball?
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:50
I don't honestly think the economics are that intertwined with the exact HR rate, except maybe in extreme situations
An average fan who is prone to being fickle about their money is likely not sensitive to the difference between 1.15 HR/9 and 1.25 HR/9.
