Another wacky playoff option better than going to 14 teams next: let the worst team in each league have a play-in game opportunity. BUT, the team they play gets to pick who pitches and the starting lineup. If you can't beat the A's with Langeliers pitching and Waldichuk playing big left-handed shortstop, are you REALLY a playoff team?

I was planning on holding off until after playoffs

Pablo Lopez had the 2nd highest rate of first-pitch strikes among qualified starters this season (also threw 50% fastballs in 0-0 counts). The Blue Jays lineup tends to be aggressive early. Feels like something's gotta give here, right?

I've been threatening to write a piece called "Let's Give a Shit About Batting Average Again" for literally four years — if you can find the podcast of the November 2019 FanGraphs event  in NYC, it began there — but it's a confluence of AVG being at something of a historical nadir, the lack of action the current game has with its higher volume of Three True Outcomes, and an historical understanding of why fans/viewers do gravitate to high-average guys. This winter I'll get it down, hopefully.
