How about William Contreras?
AvatarJay Jaffe
3:52
I was just gonna say him, Davy
AvatarJay Jaffe

Great two-way catchers are in very short supply these days and Contereras is among the best on both sides of the ball

underrated: Willy Adames? or has he reached the "identified as underrated enough that he's properly rated"
Ben Clemens
3:53
Yeah Adames is now properly rated imo

Haha. Now Hinch can start his pinch-hitting shenanigans

Remember back in May when Kyle Tucker was gonna win the AL MVP

It's really unfortunate. Guy has been great and was absolutely putting it all together. What a bummer.

O's fans will say Jordan Westburg deserves more national attention
AvatarJay Jaffe

one look at his defensive numbers might cool that discussion
Ben Clemens
3:54
I might be blinded by my own Westburg opinion, but I think he's amazing. I had him absolutely boosted on the trade value list
Davy Andrews
3:55
I love him too. I remember that that was one of my comments to Ben when I saw how high he was on the trade value list.

Kerry Carpenter is underrated. He is a freaking beast

Jay, do you have any plans to go to a NY game ? In my experience, no environment quite like playoff games in the Bronx or Queens
AvatarJay Jaffe

I am credentialed for both ballparks as is Matt Martell, so we'll both get at least a taste, and possibly quite more if the Mets advance.

Who do you think gets AL ROY ?
Ben Clemens
3:56
I'd pick Gil, I suppose. He's the betting favorite by a decent amount. But I feel like it's a two-man race between him and Cowser, not the lopsided affair that markets are showing.

Re: the playoff environment in NYC, Philadelphia will see your decibel level and raise it.

I think the noise level in the Bronx is much overrated — the reputation was earned at the old ballpark but the new one is so spacious and the early rounds it's just not as full of fans. Still very fun to attend, whether as a fan or as media

So much of a short playoff series is based off of babip luck to the point that I wonder why we even bother to predict them
Davy Andrews

You're not wrong, but I am a strong advocate of doing dumb, fun things. And it can also make you think about how one team matches up with another.

I must be one of the most casual/inattentive dues-paying fg members and this year I have paid *very* little attention. With that background I just checked the season pitching leaderboard (Skubal 2nd in WAR) and my god what is this mess/do I have an inadvertent filter applied?
Ben Clemens
3:58
It's been a strange one.
Davy Andrews

If you can find the filter that goes back and fixes everybody's UCL, please press the button.

Is it possible to overrate how silly it is that Jackson Merrill switched to CF and has been a stud all around (particularly given how most young prospects need quite a bit of adjustment period lately)
Ben Clemens

Completely agree

Such a great season, and really smooth transition both to a new position and to hitting major league pitching.

It's Nick Martinez.... Gerrit Cole second
Remember 14 days ago when Yankees fans thought Gerrit Cole was league average forever?
