Raf and Jason, agree with you both. I think a law can protect people from being treated bad but I don't think it can fundamentally change a person's views.
Bukola
2:02
I think a law can make people be forced to obey it.
Jason
2:02
It can stop it on the outside but it can't change how they are feeling on the inside
Rafael
2:02
No a law might not because some people still break the laws now.
AvatarMichelle Johnson
2:02
Interesting point Jayvon.

The civil rights act was intended to end discrimination and MLK's speech was intended to do the same. But also MLK also wanted to stop segregation and wanted everyone to have equal employment.

Good Bukola!
Bukola
2:01
I think the speech supported everyone to make freedom of America great again
AvatarMichelle Johnson
2:01
Can a law "make" people be non-prejudiced?
Emmett Robbins
2:01
The civil rights act helped to secure the stop of segregation at restaurants and other public things.
Ms. Sierra
2:01
I don't think it "worked" but I do think it opened people's eyes to inequality. I think if someone gave another speech like his, it would have a stronger reach through social media. Agreed with Piper too
Rafael
2:01
There is still racism but not as much anymore then it was before
Ms. T.
2:00
So....who should give the speech now?
Marissa T
2:00
It might also need to be spoken by someone who gives a inspiring impact on everyone.
Rafael
2:00
Probably not because now it's kinda equal for people
AvatarMichelle Johnson
2:00
Interesting Piper! I actually agree--I think it would depend upon WHO gave the speech today though...
Marissa T
1:59
The speech has not really changed most of people's views, though a new one would make a realization how people are discriminated.
Miriam Bergman
1:59
I think that the speech definitely made an impact, but I think that other historical moments built up to where we are now.
AvatarMichelle Johnson
1:59
So true Emmett. Did the Civil Rights Act have its intended affect?
Arthur Mrowca
1:59
Yes, but not for all of the U.S. because people still didn't like certain races and they have to take time to get used to it.
cool 1
Rafael
1:59
Yea It kinda worked but it's just some people didn't like his speech.
Emmett Robbins
1:59
The speech helped pass the civil rights act.
AvatarMichelle Johnson
1:59
Would a simlar speech have as much weight today.
1:58
Good point Jason
Jason
1:58
I believe the speech along with other things did help
Bukola
1:58
I think Dr King Jr hope the Segregation of the Negro would end and America would have peace.
AvatarMichelle Johnson
1:58
Agree Nathalya!! Slowly over time.
Jason
1:58
I think he hoped that the suppressors would realize how morally wrong and unfair it was
Marissa T
1:58
Dr. King may have wanted people across the nation to have a change of mind.
Mostafa
1:58
I think he hoped for the people to have a positive reaction and i agree with piper.
AvatarMichelle Johnson
1:58
Did the speech work?
Arthur Mrowca
1:58
Segregation would end and have races be in peace.
Emmett Robbins
1:58
I believe that he intended the speech to make people realize what was happening.
Rafael
1:58
I think he hoped everybody would be on his side and I also agree with piper
AvatarMichelle Johnson
Great job Nath!! That is a perfect addition.
Agree Piper!
1:57
What do you guys think? What do you think Dr. King hoped would happen?
Bukola
1:57
I first heard the speech in about 4th grade
Rafael
