Not using Excel (or I mean, I use Google Sheets so maybe that) at all seems veyr hard.

I've been using statistica since I was 13. Not sure when I moved from Lotus to Excel, probably 90s.
like 95? Was that Excel yet?

I see Dan using a slide rule and cursing out the  kids and their new fangled inventions.

I'm still disgruntled that I'm 41 and somehow have become one of the elders in my field.

I like to think of Dan as a professional wrestler. ZiPS's prediction? PAIN!!!!!!!

I'm going to go ahead and say it  - this game has been highly disappointing.
Ben Clemens
10:43
Yeah it's not over yet but I'll admit to not watching particularly closely.

Another thing I like about the Nerdcast group: they sometimes don't talk for five seconds.

To a few of these plate appearances.

The game's gotten a bit perfunctory. The ennui has set in for the A's.

Perhaps you can provide some insight on why Fangraph’s World Series Odd has the Astros with over TWICE the odds of the Dodgers. I got the sense the Astros and Dodgers were in the same tier as 1A and 1B based on preference with a decent gap ahead of tier 2(Yankees). The odds current have the Astros with a massive gap separating them from a distinct Dodgers,Yankees,Nationals tier.

I think you have to ask Sean Dolinar for details on that.
The ZiPS stuff is different and I do my own thing there

I built a perfunctory model last week that largely matched the FG projections.

Which of these teams do you think is a tougher match-up for the Astros?
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:45
I think the Rays - they're a tad more unpredictable I think
Ben Clemens
10:45
Can't say for certain, but I just took in Depth Charts runs scored/allowed data and adjusted for starting pitchin and homefield
hildebeast21
10:45
Why isn't it ZyPS?
Ben Clemens
10:46
No fancy handedness splits. So that's probably your answer. Depth Charts has the Astros as goooooooooood

I think it's because the Nats are a lot tougher team than Tampa  While Tampa/Houston is like a 30/70  type deal- Nats/Dodgers is like 50/50.
Ben Clemens
10:46
I am doing the Nationals/Dodgers game tomorrow night, I'm sure of that.
Wow, wOBA now being discussed on a national broadcast.
Tom Tango is slow clapping somewhere.
AvatarDan Szymborski

Wait, pronounced woba wrong. WE established it's woe-bacon

I remember when OPS was a BIG deal
AvatarDan Szymborski
10:47
I do too. It was a weird time.
Ben Clemens
10:47
OPS gets a lot of the way there I think. It's worse but it was a HUGE leap from the old ways
AvatarDan Szymborski

We literally had to fight for legitimacy of frigging OBP and SLG

Is wOBA being talked about how it ruined baseball?
