I would spend money like crazy, not caring if it's profitable or not.

With a new owner likely to replace management. Who could fans dream on as the top available execs. Theo Epstein, Billy Beane, …?
Darragh McDonald
5:28
Well, David Stearns is in the final year of his contract with the Brewers. He's done pretty well there despite limited budgets.
5:29
There's probably more but that's just off the top of my head because I was writing the Brewers' Offseason Outlook earlier today.

Do you see the Angels resigning Ohtani to long term deal, trading him , or just letting him walk after next season?
Darragh McDonald
5:30
Since he's just one year away from free agency, it will probably be difficult to get him to agree to an extension.
5:31
My guess is they wait and see how the season is going. If they're in it at the deadline, he stays and gets a qualifying offer. If they're out of it, he'll be the top name available at the deadline, like Soto was this year.

If the angels don’t sign Ohtani , maybe they go to a 5 man rotation since they don’t need to save his arm
Darragh McDonald
5:32
Yeah, I think the 6-man rotation was just for Ohtani, not because the team wanted to do it in a vacuum.
Minasian even said they might go 5-man next year even with Ohtani, depending on his arm.

The Angels have to trade Ohtani, right? They aren't going to the postseason next year. They'll end up with what amounts to a 3rd round draft pick if they keep him. Or they can get off to a great start to a rebuild by trading him. I know the team is for sale and that complicates things but Ohtani is gone regardless. The ownership has basically betrayed him by being one of the worst teams in baseball for his (and Trout's) entire MLB career.
Shohei's New Team
5:33
I'm sure that this question is going to be asked a thousand times, but I'll add to it - What are the chances Ohtani is on another team come Opening Day 2023? It is better that he is on the books or off it for Moreno to sell the team? And if it is better that he is off, what do you think the chances of Trout being gone by next April could be?

The Angels will trade Shohei Ohtani
Darragh McDonald
5:33
Got a lot of Ohtani question, understandably.
5:34
The club considered a trade back in July but Moreno wouldn't approve it.
5:35
Like I mentioned earlier, I expect them to hold onto him and see what happens. But if they're bad again in 2023 and an extension doesn't seem possible, there'd be no point holding him at the deadline. They'd surely get offers better than the QO.

Team up for sale, havnt made the playoffs in years, one of the best two players already put signs out that he is unlikely to stay with the team long term, will the top free agents be put off coming to the Angels?.
Darragh McDonald
5:37
It's not a great pitch at the moment. Even Gerrit Cole casually dissed them during the playoffs.
"I could be with the Angels right now and sitting on my couch but I'd rather be here getting booed" or something along those lines.

Is there any chance that either the current or new owners break their salary restraints to sign both Ohtani and a SS, say Turner or Boegarts to long term deals, and finally field a contender?
Darragh McDonald
5:38
If you're looking for a hopeful scenario to dream on, your best bet is that some Steve Cohen-type owner buys the team with the goal of spending like crazy.
Trea Turner
5:38
Could I be a target and a good fit for the Angels? And if so, what kind of contract would it take for me to sign?
Darragh McDonald
5:39
All of the big shortstops (Trea, Xander, Dansby, Correa) make sense for the Angels from a baseball perspective. It's just the business side of things that complicates the matter.
James
5:40
Who says no? Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, Jeff McNeil, and Taijuan Walker for Trout and Detmers.
Darragh McDonald
5:40
Trout's not getting traded.
Or if he is, it's because things have gotten really bad down the line somewhere.
Ohtani return
5:40
What kind of return would the Angels get trading me now vs waiting until the July deadline?
Darragh McDonald
5:41
I don't think the difference will be huge, unless he's hurt.
Rob
5:42
Reid Detmers - over/under for IPs in 2023 - 160?
Darragh McDonald
5:42
He could probably get there because he threw 135 this year between Triple-A and the majors. It's not a huge jump.
But since pitchers get hurt all the time, I'd probably take the under.

Any rumors about how soon the team sale may be announced? Potential bidders? Seems this will happen before the Nats complete the sale.
Suarez
5:43
Are there rumors out there about which owners/ownership groups might be interested in buying the Angels?
Darragh McDonald
5:43
Nothing really definitive that I've seen.
Izzy
5:44
Should the Angels package Adell and Moniak for an Ace starter, and look into FA for an everyday Left Fielder?
Darragh McDonald
5:44
I don't know if those two have much trade value at all, never mind for an ace starter.

How good of a fit is Drury on the angels? He seems like an ideal fit to platoon with Walsh at 1B and could back up 2B/3B as well. What kind of a deal might he get this offseason?
Darragh McDonald
5:45
Drury makes sense, but he could fit on just about any team because of the positional versatility you outlined.

Is there any chance the Angels pursue an extension with Ohtani, even though the team is for sale?
Darragh McDonald
5:46
I'm sure they'd pursue it, but why would Ohtani want that? Like we saw with Soto and the Nats, it takes two to tango.
