For the early app MCIT program, what's the difference between getting a decision on Jan15th vs Feb15th (is it based on when you applied?)
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:11
Guest, it's based on the overall workload of all of those doing the reviews. It's possible that every applicant may get their response on Jan 15.

Hello!
Kuan-Lin Lee
10:08
Hi Will, I have applied the MSE data science program, and I would like to ask if I have built my personal website to demonstrate some of my works, where do you suggest to put my website links? Thank you.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:13
Kuan-Lin Lee, the link should go on your CV/Resume and you can also mention it in your personal statement. If you have already submitted your application, you can update both of those items one time, by sending the updated documents to admissions2@seas.upenn.edu.

Hello Will, May I know roughly how many applicants applied for the Early Decision pool for the MCIT program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:13
Hi Johnny, sure thing. We had approximately 150.

Thank you Will! Have a nice weekend :)
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

You do the same, Srishti.

I applied to the data science program and just noticed that my official score came out 2 days ago, already submitted to Penn on Dec 4, will send Penn an email as well right now
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:14
Viola, that's fine. However, if your official score was already sent to Penn by ETS, it should match to your application within 48-72 hours.
Johnny

and the corresponding acceptance rate for the MCIT program
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:15
Johnny, since there aren't any decisions out yet, we don't have an acceptance rate.

Dear Will, thanks for the response . Would it be possible to know the courses at this time under the specialization? Thanks
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:16
Jenberu, if you're looking for the course listing for Material Science, you can find it here: https://mse.seas.upenn.edu/masters/. Also, just to be clear, the Material Science program only has one deadline, that is Feb 1. As such, the earliest you'd receive a decision is March 15.

Hi Will, I have applied for the MSE in Data Science Program. I'm a US citizen residing in India for the past few years. I would like to know if there any scholarships or fellowships available for me.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
Hi Vignesh, you can take a look at the links at the top of the chat, for a few potential funding sources, but Penn Engineering doesn't provide aid for master's students.

Do PhD applicants in STEM typically need a PI advocating for them? Is TAship guaranteed?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:18
Guest, I'm sure it helps in the process, but you don't need to have one to be admitted. And TA positions are handled per program, so you'd need to reach out to the specific program to which you applied with that question.

Ok got it and thanks for the chat, have a nice day!

Around when do PhD applicants hear back about admission?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:19
Guest, they usually start hearing back after we return from the Winter Break, and we do our best to release decisions before the April 15 signing deadline. But the decisions are made on a rolling basis, so there is no specific release date(s).

Hi Will, I have submitted my application and sent the Official Test scores via ETS, However, the status of my application on the checklist page shows "material required". How much time does it take for the application status to be updated?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:21
Siddhant, for test scores, it can take a minimum of 48 hours, once they're received by Penn. It may also be showing "materials," needed due to Letters of Recommendation that are incomplete or the fact that we would need your official transcripts if you are admitted.
Kunal

So, Will. If the article is completed now and is already accepted by a journal and they say it won't be publicated until January. So how can I tell this to the school? Thanks for your answer.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:22
Kunal, yes. That is something you may put on an updated CV/Resume and then email us so that it will be updated.

How can I add certificates to my application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:22
Lakshay, you can't. You can list them on your CV/Resume though.
Kuan-Lin Lee
10:16
Thank you Will. Your suggestion help a lot. Have a nice day!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:22
You're welcome, Kuan-Lin. I hope you have a good day as well.
Johnny
10:16
Thank you Will for the answers! One last question - does the admissions committee overlap between programs or is there one unique committee for each program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:23
Johnny, there may be overlap depending on if faculty have cross-program appointments. For example, faculty that are in both CIS and Data Science may look at both pools. As Penn is very big on cross-discipline learning, many of our faculty work in more than one program area. But ultimately this is handled by each program.
Lakshay
10:19
How many applicants for Computer and Information Science, MSE ? And how many receive admits?

JENBERU BEYENE

Thank you for the prompt response Will. Have a great weekend ahead! Jenberu.
