Hi! Is there any chance for a MSE student to transfer his degree to a PhD, in CBE department?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:38
Yannuo, yes, there is. But you still have to go through the regular application process and the earliest you would usually start is 2nd semester your 2nd year.

Hi will, I want to ask why last year the admission of MSE in EE and SE is roiling based but this year is not ? Thank you.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:39
Hi Kim, we have changed up our process for many programs between last year and this year to give applicants a specific date that they can receive their programs, because we are trying to do a better job in communicating with our applicants.
Grace
10:39

AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:39
Grace, if you were waitlisted, you'd be notified. But we do our absolute best to not waitlist anyone.

My GRE scores have not yet been matched with my application yet.(About 2 weeks since I submitted my application.) Will it affect  the review procedure or will my unofficial scores be used to make a decision?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Aditya, I have already answered your question - there is no problem; we'll contact you if there is an issue.

Hi Will, just got another question. As the UPenn webpage mentions that the decisions for CBE PhD will be made within 6-8 weeks from the deadline. Does this imply that within next two weeks everyone will get to know about the final decision? Thanks!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:42
Guest, we try to hold to that timeline, but we can't guarantee it. Ultimately, decisions are made on a rolling basis.
Anthony

Hi will. I am an applicant to PhD program. I am planning to transfer from my current university to UPenn. Since my TOEFL test results are not valid anymore (It has passed more than 2 years) I have taken my TOEFL iBT test yesterday and the results will be posted from ETS to UPenn in about 2 weeks. Do you think that by that time my application will be regarded or it might result to dismissal of my application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:44
Yalda, if you are a PhD applicant and your TOEFL was expired at the time of application, please email us at gradstudies@seas.upenn.edu and I can let you know more.

Hi there,  I have applied for the MSE Robotics program. I have written two GRE exams, the old one's scores have been sent to upenn code 2926 , the recent one to upenn school of engg and applied sciences (code 2888) - to be considered for my application. The old scores were sent during my test. I would like the most recent one to be considered. In my collegenet status , GRE scores are marked as received , I would like to make sure that they are latest ones. Is there any procedure to do so. Thanks and Regards? , Arunachalam
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:46
Arunachalam, please send an email to admissions1@seas.upenn.edu, and someone can assist you with that issue.

AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

ChBE Applicant

Hello Will, could share some information regarding in what areas do most PhD applicants fall short on? I know you look at the application package as a whole, but do you know if there are any specific parts of application like insufficient research, lack of publications, poor GPA and/or GRE's that most applicants fall short in.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:47
ChBE Applicant, I'm sorry, but I can't as these decisions are made by the dept. It could literally be all of things you cited.
