Hi Will, I applied to CS PhD. I'm wondering if the applications have been sent to the professors to review yet?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Weiqiu, yes, all applications that are being reviewed have been sent to the faculty and programs for review.

I have applied phd CIS what is the expected Decision date. I also want to  enquire about prof insup lee. He is back from holiday or not?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
Qaisar, We have started courses, so it is likely that Dr. Lee is back. However, I don't know the faculty's schedules, so I can't say for sure. Also, there is no expected decision date - we anticipate more decisions will start going out in the next week or two.

Hello, I applied to the bioengineering phD. If I finally get rejected, will I be considered for master's program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:17
Amy, we do not automatically consider rejected PhD applicants for master's programs. Your safe bet would be to submit a master's application as well.
Callan
10:08
Hello, Will. I am Callan who applied for MS program in chemical engineering department. I want to ask you about if I don't received the email about interviewing, does that means I did not recepted? Or the interviewing is not required for all students?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:18
Callan, our CBE dept does not conduct formal interviews for the program. So if you haven't received an email about an interview, that is nothing to worry about.
Ramesh

Hi Wil. Can one be admitted to the Computer and Information Science PhD program with an interview? When are the decisions likely to be announced?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:19
Ramesh, our CIS program does not hold formal interviews, so you can be interviewed without an interview. More decisions should go out in the next week or two.

Hi Will, I am interested in applying to MSc in Bioengineering. In case I get in and I decide I want to apply to the PhD program, could I do so during the fall term, the first of the semester? Or does the master take more than one year to complete and should wait one more year? Thanks
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:20
Marc, you would need to apply for the 21-22 term. However, it is possible the dept could choose to fast-track your application and have you start the PhD program in Spring 21. This is a very rare occurrence. And our master's program is usually two years.

Hi Will, I’ve applied to the MCIT (Master of Computer and Information Technology). I’m wondering if the applications are reviewed on a rolling basis or if they are all reviewed after the March deadline?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:22
David, they are reviewed after the early and late deadlines, Nov 15 and March 15. We release decisions on the release dates you can find here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/
Daniel

Hi Will. In CS, if one is admitted to the PhD after having been interviewed by a professor, is admission specific to that professor's lab? How does the advisor matching process work?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:23
Daniel, admission is not specific to that professor, but that is usually the person who's lab you would be in. The program does the advisor matching.
Ninaad

Hi Will. I am applying to two programs for MSE - Robotics and MEAM. I have submitted my Robotics application, and now want to carry over my LOR's to the MEAM application. Could you please explain the procedure for the same? Thanks in advance!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:26
Ninaad, yes. You need to fill in all of the same recommenders information on the application, and then select "No," for the question, "Will this provider be submitting the letter of recommendation online?” Once you submit the application, send an email to admissions1@seas.upenn.edu, asking to have the LORs from your Robotics application copied to the MEAM application.

Hello. I have submitted more than one gre scores. However, I can not recognize which score is received on the application portal. How can I know if the last score is received?(However, I submitted the score after the deadline)(ESE PhD, I submitted a score before the ddl and submitted another score after the ddl around 12.25
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:27
Guest, you can email admissions1@seas.upenn.edu, asking to make sure that both scores are uploaded on your application. However, if the scores submitted around 12/25 were from an exam taken after the 12/15 deadline, they won't be considered. We only consider scores for exams taken by the application deadline.
Vivek

Hello, I have completed my application for CBE Msc at the end of december and even sent out the request for IELTS to submit scores to your university at the same time. But, my application status is still 'Materials Needed' and my English Proficiency status is still not updated.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:28
Vivek, you can send an email to admissions2@seas.upenn.edu asking about the status of your IELTS. If we have your unofficial scores your application should be okay for us to start reviewing, if we also have everything else we need.
Zhou
10:15
Good morning, Will. I have applied for MSE - chemical engineering. Is it possible to transfer to the PhD program on he completion of the MSE?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:29
Zhou, no, we don't have transfer options to the PhD. You would need to formally apply, like all other applicants. However, you'll have the advantage of having the professors know you and also, possibly, writing your letters of recommendation, so that's a very good thing! :)
Ethan
10:17
Hi Will, is there a way to update my application with a paper under review for publication? Thanks
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:30
Ethan, we don't include potentially published papers in application review materials. If you want to submit an updated CV/Resume, you can send it to admissions1@seas.upenn.edu. However, we can't guarantee that any new information will be reviewed if your application is already under review.
Ninaad
